"LEAD ME NOT INTO TEMPTATION... OH,WHO AM I KIDDING! FOLLOW ME! I KNOW A SHORTCUT!" |
Navira was very much a "city-dog." She had grown up racing between houses and tall buildings on smooth concrete paths. She was used to the sound of rushing cars and babbling people bustling about her town. The mottled Why'o had grown up learning to stalk pigeons, doves and the occasional park-dwelling squirrel when human scraps were scarce. Every great now and again she fought off a greedy racoon in a street-lit front yard until humans burst loudly from their houses and chased them both away. Everything that she was used to was now gone, completely and forever it seemed. The clans had raided the humans' leftover trash bins until there was nothing left but paper and inedibles scattered across the icy streets. What was left was beginning to smell like sick. Even the stuff inside of the houses was slowly beginning to lose its appeal. The once dangerous roads had been quiet for many days now, existing only as pathways for the dogs to walk from place to place more easily in snowy weather. The idea had slowly crept into Navira's mind as a whispering anxiety - It had grown louder and louder until she could ignore it no longer. The humans had been a lifeline for the Why'o Clan. With their main food source dwindling rapidly, they would have to seriously start looking for other ways to fill their bellies. She had called two dogs that morning to once again scout the forest with her - This time to start taking inventory of the lout that existed there and how to catch it. She had seen quite a few animals recently that weren't very familiar. A prickly pig, a great big horse-deer thing, a black and white fox that had sprayed one of their older apprentices with a nose-burning scent. She knew that these animals were dangerous...but what about the smaller ones? What else did this forest hold that could help her clan survive without the humans? With her two clan mates by her side, Navira crept into the dense woodland and lowered her nose to scent the snow. She snorted at the cold and then perked her ears in the direction of a small bird fluttering away in a screeching panic, sending echoing warnings to any creature within earshot. "Ready or not, here we come!" She said with a roll of her eyes. |
