❀⸻𝓢𝓪𝓻𝓾⸻❀ Saru nearly somersaulted into a large tree as he chased after a squirrel. His massive paws pounding against the earth was probably echoing throughout the creepy railways.
"Come here you damn katha'chek(squirrel)!" The doberman clawed violently at the bark of the tree as the bushy-tailed creature settled on a branch and watched him with black, beady eyes. Any logical dog would know their was simply no chance that the prey would be caught now unless he grew wings. Nonetheless, he snapped a quick "mato'yabi!"
Finally, he dropped to all fours once more and turned his attention towards his pale-coated sister. There was nothing strict about his appearance, he was immediately loose once more. The small nub of a tail he had was wiggling behind him excitedly. Then he caught sight of his sister's expression and his head tilted to the side curiously.
"Hey..." He lowered his front half in an invitation of play. "Why you lookin' at me funny?"
Unknown to him, a black and white creature was lumbering out of the brush nearby.

| Quick on the dark doberman's heels was his pale white opposite, though both of the adolescent dogs were clearly related. They had the same carefree, crashing lope as they pounded loudly through the forest and over the broken railroad. Uru stopped just behind her brother as he scrabbled comically at the tree that the squirrel had disappeared into.
She threw a paw over her muzzle to stifle a giggle, though she forgot to check her volume. Her laugh was loud and obvious.
"Because you are funny, you dummy! I thought you were going to climb up like a chek. Katha'saru!" She said with a grin, crouching into a play bow to mirror Saru before bouncing back upright. She threw herself at her brother in a mock charge but stopped at the last second, sending leaves and dirt flying out all around as she came close enough to give her brother a big, sloppy lick across his cheek. Then she turned to bolt away with a laugh, knowing that Saru would want his revenge when he caught her.
Just as quickly as she had started though she stopped again, nearly tripping over her own paws in her haste to slow herself. She had spotted some unfamiliar animal shambling around in the undergrowth a few bounds away. With the thought that it might be something tasty (and ground-bound) her sharp ears flew to attention.
"Hey, Saru! What's that thing?" She barked, pointing at the thing with her nose. "Is that lout or felin?" Oh, who was she kidding? A cat was totally prey!

Saru's dark eyes widened when the pale she-dog charged towards him. He thought he was about to end up in a massive tumble. Instead, his sister came to an abrupt halt and a slobbery tongue was dragged across his cheek.
In an adolescent gesture, the brute unveiled his incisors and shut his eyes in disgust, "Ugh! Uru!" He jumped up to his full height, eyes glimmering in delight. "You're going to regret that!" As he caught up with her, it was quite lucky that he managed to slow down with her. Or the two goofy canines would have probably tumbled directly into the unknown creature.
As his sister pointed out the black and white animal, Saru couldn't help the subconscious way he puffed out his chest and took a step to put himself in front of his sister. "Is it a mutated chek?"
He should stop, he really should. There was simply no way this skunk wouldn't see him as a threat. Not with his teeth currently bared in a snarl and his paws beginning to make hesitant steps towards it. "Dare you to bark at it." He called over his shoulder towards Uru.

| Uru rolled her pale blue eyes at Saru when he stepped out in front of her. As if she couldn't protect herself from a fluffy little cat-thing! Or...whatever that thing was. Still though, she only peered cautiously over her brother's shoulder at the creature. When he stepped forward she was right behind him, practically glued to his rear.
"I-I think so? I think it's a chek, but look! It doesn't run. It walks like it's e'pata!" At this, Uru found herself snickering. The way the animal waddled around with that wide belly really did remind her of a fat pregnancy waddle. Except now it had stopped and turned slowly to look at Saru when he approached, little beady eyes now trained cautiously on the big dog.
Her giggle was cut suddenly short with a sharp gasp with Saru's dare. She turned quickly to look at him, mouth slightly agape, and shook her head hard.
"No way! I dare YOU to do it!" She quipped back. "You're the mighty hunter, not me!" And with that she lifted up her front paws and braced them hard into her brother's backside to shove him closer to the giant chek.

He was pushed closer, and he couldn't help the prideful, shameless grin that sat on his muzzle. "I ain't scared! You thudu." He snickered the words, dark eyes now focused on the creature that stared right back at him. If he were aware of the animals in their area, he would be a million miles away. Instead, he bowed in front of the black and white animal so they were at eye-level.
Then he barked, and the skunk was rounding on him and pointing its rear directly towards his face. Poor Saru did not have time to react as the unknown species sprayed the most horrid fluid at him. The Doberman swore he jumped seventy feet into the air as the fuzzy varmint dashed away. Squeals of absolute panic echoed from his lungs.
He was momentarily so panicked that his ears weren't taking in the sounds around him. He acted without thinking, and violently began to rub and push his face against the earth. He didn't even care if his sister was teasing him, as he whimpered pitifully.

| Uru would have never in a million years anticipated what would happen next. One minute she was shoving her brother along, giggling like a pup, the next a horrible cloud of burning stink had erupted from the animal and spat out all over Saru's face. Even though Saru got the brunt of it, Uru probably squealed just as loudly as he did while she backpedaled in a blind panic.
"It exploded!" She yiped, scrambling several feet away to cough and sputter away the noxious smell that was now clinging to everything - The trees, the bushes, herself, Saru...
"Saru! Oh no, Saru!" She shrieked, bounding back over to her brother as he convulsed face-first in the leaf litter. No - No he was just trying to rub off the STINK! The young doberman was too stunned to laugh. She stood slack jawed, staring at her panicking brother without saying a single word for what felt like ages. It took all of her willpower to process what had happened, and even then she still wasn't sure. And then...
"Oh my gods..." She whined suddenly, sounding on the verge of tears. "I smell!"

The doberman blinked blurry eyes at his sister as he hacked at the disgusting smell clinging to the both of them. "Did we-did we kill it?" He whipped his head around, not seeing the little black and white creature anywhere. He wobbled, his brain feeling fried as he heard his sibling's tearful voice.
Immediately his big-brother instincts kicked in as he sat up strictly and cried out. "Water! We need to bathe. I'm not putting my tongue on this stink." He stood to his full height, eyes irritated and red as he took in the view of Uru smelly and upset. He had to keep himself out of his head or he would begin feeling puny and useless. He despised strong emotions such as that.
He may not be able to smell anything, but his tall ears could pick up the flow of aqua. Unfortunately he couldn't confirm how big the water was and if it would soak them adequately but he stepped forward and gently nudged his sister towards the sound. "I can hear water that way. Otherwise we gotta roll ourselves in some mud."

| "We killed it! We're monsters. Restephus UDU!" Uru echoed her brother in a ridiculous sob, too shocked to process that she and Saru would probably have ended up eating the animal under different circumstances.
It was only when Saru began to take charge that her small panic attack began to subside, though she still hiccuped and sniffled a bit. (until she realized that sniffing made the burning stink worse) She stood with watering eyes and began to follow Saru, high stepping through the brittle undergrowth like a lanky deer after the darker canna. He knew what he was doing. He was going to take them to a bath. Or...
Uru stopped suddenly in her tracks.
"MUD?" She exclaimed. But after a moment to process what a nasty situation they were in anyway, she resumed bounding after Saru. Mud couldn't be worse than this. This was the worst. As she caught up with her sibling, Uru recoiled slightly at the pungent smell of him. He smelled WAY worse than her.
"Uh...Saru?" She said, her voice still higher than usual in the stress of the moment. Her muzzle was wrinkled in disgust while she spoke. "What if mud doesn't get it off? Or water? What if we stink forever?"
Her brain and her mouh were suddenly working overtime -
"What if the clan doesn't want us back, and we have to start our own clan, and everyone calls us Stink Clan? I think we should have a better name than that. Except I really don't like this smell. Gosh, why'd you have to go and bark at it? I didn't know an animal could do that! What if canna exploded every time they got scared? Do you think all the humans exploded in the earthquake just like the stinky chek? Except they didn't make any stink."

This experience was definitely going to cause the kids to have an unnecessary phobia towards small, black and white creatures. Saru was trying his very best to give off an aura of confidence despite the grimace currently resting on his muzzle. The smell he and his sister currently carried on their pelts was the ugliest scent.
"Hey-" Saru tried to interrupt his littermate's spiraling as he glanced over his shoulder and witnessed her glossy eyes and sniffles. It tore at him to not be able to comfort her. He would have given her time to wrap her head around their predicament had she not begin to rattle off more and more anxieties.
"Hey!" This time the canine barked sharply into the air, turning on his paws so he was facing her once more. His expression was difficult to read, but he was trying his very best to open his soul to her. "You're panicking, and there is no need to panic." This was perhaps the first time in his life that Saru seemed absolutely serious. It was typically the type to panic and smack into a tree.
However, when it came to his sister, he was quick to step up and help her through her troubles. "The Why'os would never get rid of us--we are clearly the supreme members, paws-down(like hands down, lmao)!" He nodded, trying to convince himself as he leaned forward and bumped his forehead against his pale sibling's. A sign of companionship, something they had done as foolish little pups.
"Let's try the water, then the mud if that doesn't work, and as a last resort, we ask the Why'os for help. Surely someone has dealt with this before." He gave her a once-over and approached the water they had finally come across. He sucked in a breath and muttered bitterly.
"It's going to be cold." With that, he shut his eyes and leapt in.
