Warm weather and a bright sky had been an enticing factor for the silver elkhound to get outside and get some fresh air. Well, relatively warm weather. Some of the shorter coated canna would be keen to disagree with Hara'Mukha's opinion on the forecast. He carried himself with confidence and pride, his head held high and taking in the scents on the breeze with his back straight, his legs stiff, and his tail up in a curled arch over top his rump. Though, not even the beautiful day could encourage the corkscrew to wag in delight.
Dark eyes darted briefly to the side, noting the other canna in his peripherals. Yes, the Why'o shadowspeaker had insisted Hara not travel alone. His last venture outside of the prison walls had resulted in him returning to the healers' room battered and bruised, and definitely doing his bum leg no favors. Of course, the last time he was out he had wandered far into a wilderness he was uncertain had existed prior to his arrival to the town of Kah'ren. Much like his goals on this day, he had set off to get some fresh air, exercise, and pick up some herbs to keep the owi cache stocked. This time he had used the excuse to get out of any worry for his well-being. It was pretty unlikely for a canna to get injured while picking flowers. Of course, this came with a certain stipulation.
Likal'e Tir had been made - or perhaps asked, but Hara didn't care to differentiate - to accompany the medium sized brute. The elkhound kept his eyes forward, but his black ears flicked in annoyance at his company's simple existence. A sneer crossed his muzzle at his personal discontent. He was no ren! He needed no babysitter!
"Di' ye manage to geh a count uf all yer Why'o stock?" he asked plainly, not even showing the slightest amount of decency by addressing his companion directly. Instead he maintained his forward gaze. One might have easily mistaken the elkhound to be talking to himself by his mannerisms. "Or do weh 'ave no idea wot wer' lookin' fer?"

The first truly sunny day of spring, an opportunity where he could have easily been out snatching up rabbits just poking their heads out of their dens for the first time, was now being wasted babysitting. Despite his sister's best efforts, the stubborn elkhound seemed much too determined to injure himself further and let his leg rot clean off. With all the treks he was doing, it was no surprise to Likal that he was assigned as a medical escort to the seemingly accident-prone canna. The collie and elkhound wore matching expressions as they padded slowly through Kah'ren.
The garbled accent of the odd canna caught his ears, and with an added second to actually process what the male had said, Likal responded with the same broadcasting of speech forwards, "I know your name is Hara'mukha but if you spit out those rocks in your snout it would be a lot easier to hear your words." Continuing forwards silent for a few more paces, he finally began to answer Hara's question, "We're pretty well stocked. Could always use some more Ewee'ook and Pata'mira. You and the pata go through it like you're starved. Lendri's leg is healing well and shouldn't need a splint for much longer. If we see any suitable thin branches we can grab them. How is your leg doing now? Clearly, you're up and moving but you seem like the type to lie just to get your way." Likal's eyes would only flick over to the smaller canna if he somehow gestured, otherwise, they were scanning the plants around them to see if any earned his attention.

The dark tipped ears flicked at the collie's retort. Again the Why'o canna lacked any sort of respect. His name was derivative of his greying muzzle. A color that had no doubt expanded due to the stress of having been around these dogs for far longer than Hara would have preferred, no doubt. His name was one to be proud of, not something said with a mocking tone behind it. ...right? The nagging feeling was back. He hadn't even been able to say his own name correctly. The elkhound purged the thought from his mind.
No other clans had ever been full of such rude members as these dogs had proven to be. Then again, he had never remained long enough in any one place to really get to know members of past clans. He had also always entered their numbers with a more friendly demeanor, happy to meet the elders and learn their stories while also sharing those of his own with the younger generations. Unlike his introduction to the Why'os. Being mostly dragged while only slightly conscious and delirious with the pain of a dislocated leg and cracked ribs. His introduction to them and their way of life had been just about as miserable as they had felt towards him remaining in their presence.
A smirk crossed the darkened muzzle as his companion mentioned the hurt ren and inquired about his own injured leg. Just another thing he could attribute to poor healing within the clan, there were currently two dogs in their ranks that had leg issues. "Eh'm walken on et, arn't ey?" he asked rhetorically. "An' tha' clearly ain' no lie." His words lingered on the air with a mock confidence. His ears folded back as he thought on it. While the leg was serviceable, he certainly did not like to put any weight whatsoever on it. It was not even that it hurt anymore so much as it felt uncomfortable and just... wrong. It left a sinking feeling in his chest that this would be his new normal. Eventually he would pay it no mind but for now it was the only thing he could ever think about. Being cooped up within the prison walls did him no favors as he was left with nothing to do but think. And thinking led to him wondering inwards. What was he doing now? What would he be doing in the future?
"Don' yuh worreh abou' meh. I'll be out'uh yer furs soon enou'h," he added as he side stepped from the concrete path into an overgrown yard. His nails scraped on some iced over slush where the human-made stone met the natural dirt. "It meh beh a lil' earleh fer et, buh pata'mira usuhlly sprou's in the cornehs ov theh grimm hara." He drew no attention to his mispronunciation of the canna word "rara," but instead kept his focus on attempting to free the little bits of plant life that lay visible beyond the thin layer of ground ice.

Hara's retort and confidence in his own healing, despite the fact that he clearly wasn't walking on his injured leg with the normal amount of weight only earned the elkhound a side-eye glance from Likal and a pursed lip shrug. If he wanted to be stubborn about his truth, that was his prerogative. With Lendri it was much easier to tell him he was wrong. Hara'mukha had the same stubborn, bullheaded nature as himself, and at this point he knew better than to try and convince him of anything.
"Don' yuh worreh abou' meh. I'll be out'uh yer furs soon enou'h," the hound spoke again, earning the treat of a raised eyebrow from the merle collie. He knew that Hara hadn't truly joined the Why'o clan, and instead was just being healed after Rozo'ama Akoda, but he hadn't thought that the male truly would leave. Frankly, the clan needed another grouch. He was perceived as too much of a hard-headed brute when alone. With Hara there he could at least prove that he was just as rude as anyone else would be. "It meh beh a lil' earleh fer et, buh pata'mira usuhlly sprou's in the cornehs ov theh grimm hara," the other canna pointed out, the green specs beneath the ice spotted by his fellow healer as well. Likal hummed in response, drawing to a stop by the little crack in the path.
"May as well give them their best shot," he rumbled, using his claw to lightly scrape the slushy ice off of the top of the sprouts. He left it beside them. Hopefully, the sun would melt it and give the herbs a headstart. While focused on doing his civic duty of gardening, Likal mused, "You know, you could stay. Makes me not look like so much of a shempsar when there's more than one of us. Besides, any clan could use more healers and you clearly know what you're doing." It would be difficult for Likal to flat-out say that he wanted the elkhound to say, so instead he skirted around the point. Justifying it with other excuses was just as good, right? It wasn't like the two were friends. They had hardly had a true conversation other than this one. Maybe this single actual talk would convince him to stay. He didn't need Hara as a scapegoat-like figure for his rough exterior, but it sure would be nice to not be seen as the one grouch of the clan.

Hara'Mukha found himself nodding at both the comment regarding every clan needing more healers in general and the half-compliment that was granted by the collie regarding his healing prowess. This served only to boost the elkhound's ego. One corner of the canna's lips curled up in a partial smile, something nearly resembling a smirk, as he huffed out a small chuckle.
"Is true," he started simply. "Buh, yuh know, therh er otha clans out therh. Coul' all use uh bih o' 'ealers." Looking up from where he was scraping he raised a brow at the collie, his expression solely that of one withholding a question. "Yeh e'er consi'er leaveh thi' place?" There was a surprising hint of genuine intrigue in his inquiry.
The elkhound had always been more of a canna'thi than anything else. It had definitely been a lonely life on the road, that much was certain. Though he did miss it. And the loneliness was oftentimes quelled by the experiences of encountering new, welcoming clans along his travels. With those he could share stories and learned knowledge through experiences for an easy meal and a couple of nights within shelter. He had, however, never considered sharing the road with another canna. However, there was something about Likal that stood out to the brute. Something about the collie reminded Hara of himself. Perhaps this specific Why'o could appreciate that kind of life.
The elkhound had yet to realize that everything that lay beyond the town of Kah'ren and its new, surrounding forests had ceased to exist. He would never know his old life again.
