Now that Rahani'huda Mirahu, the chek and fli were more and more inclined to poke their heads out of the snow and enjoy the sunshine. After the gruelling winter, Mouse was hoping that spring would bring a new spark back to the clan. Their losses hung heavy over the Chief's head. It was difficult to reconcile with the sheer number of dogs she had lost that fateful day. She was the leader of this family, and yet now their numbers were so small that a pulling put them in too much danger if discovered. She had been scouting with Huli often, trying to see which clans were setting up nearby and to see if any abandoned human structures would be worth Pulling from. An abandoned house would do them good for practicing again with little risk of getting hurt. She would need to ask Navira to borrow one from the Why'os claimed town.
For now, Mouse strode confidently into the forest in the sunshine. The temperature was lovely, and spring was finally feeling like it was in full swing. It would be difficult for snow to stay on the ground if it fell with the heat from the sun zapping away at it. Sturdy legs carrier her through the grasses as her nose keenly swung from side to side, trying to triangulate where a juicy rabbit could be hiding. "Thank the gods for this weather. I don't know how much more snow I could take," she said to whoemever was around, in a rare good mood for once.

| "I'm with you there." Navira replied. "I think this may have been the longest winter of my life." She trotted along confidently at the smaller dog's side, completely at ease in the other chief's presence. For all the balking she had done at the beginning of this arrangement, it had become a part of her routine now. Check in with Li'aba'chek. Pair one of her Why'os with a Rith'r Flik companion. Meet up with her own later to find out how things were going. Hunting and patrolling never went as smoothly as they did on these days.
Plus - She'd discovered that she liked not only hunting with Mouse, but also chatting with her. She was a good dog.
"Well - Maybe it's just that it's been the weirdest winter of my life." She corrected herself, turning away from Mouse to snuffle around under a clump of ferns that had decided to poke themselves out of the ground, bravely growing up through still chilly earth. She could smell thudu here, but the scent was stale. "The snow, the earthquake, the missing dogs, the found dogs...you know."

Navira was a welcome companion on any expedition. After the tense conclusion of their first meeting, Mouse wasn't sure if they would ever get to a point of comfortability. The logistical juggling of merging clan patrols was difficult, and with her numbers so small, she was sure that there were going to be some scraps, but luckily all had gone well so far. Her fellow chief had grown on her, and the collie-mix seemed to tolerate the little fireball that was her neighbour with a grace Mouse was sure she wouldn't have displayed herself. Tan paws carried her over to the budding leaves of a bush while her ears tracked Navira, listening as she sniffed. No sign of anything delicious scampering under the low branches, how unfortunate.
"You've found dogs too, ay? That's good to hear," she yapped, her attention elsewhere before the pain in the butt that had graced her presence in the last week once again invaded her mind, "We actually found someone recently too. You're not going to believe me when I say this, but I swear on the gods I ain't lying. A pup, she couldn't have been more than a moon or two old when Rozo'ama Akoda hit, stole from my lout pile! And get this, it gets stranger. She's from a litter from Rith'r Flik canna lost in the collapse and had not a single clue that she was really a Rith'r Flik dog! How much convincing does it take for two dogs this close to the ground to realise that they belong together?!" She chuckled, both at her joke and at the insanity of her situation. She was a pawful, that was for sure. Feral too. Brown eyes turned up to her fellow Chief, expecting to laugh at her folly together. There weren't many times that Mouse would truly admit how small she was, but this was just too crazy to not highlight that fact.

| "Aya!" Navira responded at the beginning of Mouse's story with a shake of her head, exasperated on the other chief's behalf that a pup would waltz in and steal from a powerful clan's lout pile. A clan pup though - Navira found herself fully tuning in with the rest of the story. A little one who was separated and somehow not only survived, but walked right back into her birth clan's home without a clue in the world? If only the Why'os could be that lucky!
"Before Rozo'ama Akoda, I might not've believed a story like that." Navira laughed. "Now I think I'd believe it if you said that Ridna'kah herself delivered that pup to you like a falling Emlier.
Ours was way less dramatic. Well actually...it was just dramatic in a whole different way. I started to chase her off our land before I realized that she was only ele'cannara age. She cried...a lot." She half-admitted with a small grimace. She'd leave out the part where she kicked Jarri over into the street for now. "She was just wandering around Kah'ren all alone looking for friends, so we took her in."
The more Navira talked though, the more her jovial expression changed. The amusement was gone now, replaced with a look of someone trying to piece together a really difficult puzzle. She wasn't ready to leap into it teeth first though - She could be completely wrong. Either way, Mouse was right about one thing...Rith'r Flik dogs were pretty unmistakable.
"It's been funny watching this little one run around our galu." She said, watching Mouse's reaction from her peripheral. "We call her Jarri'hin. She's taken to Why'o life like a breeze and she's become really close with our pata - But she looks like a rabbit chasing a bunch of shu'a when they all play together. She's just a tiny thing."

The Rith'r Flik Chief's snuffling around for prey was all but stopped in its tracks as she listened to Navira's tale of another little pup in trouble. Ele'cannara age... like a rabbit chasing the much taller Why'o pups... just a tiny thing - the chances were so low that she practically couldn't believe it. Jarri'hin wasn't a name that she could remember the lost parents saying they wanted to name one of their daughters, but then again, Kanya didn't know she even had a name, let alone a clan.
"Do you think..." Mouse trailed off, turning to face her fellow Chief while trying to think of how to phrase what she wanted to ask, "Do you think you could bring her along for a patrol? It seems impossible, but I'm thinking that your Jarri might be our Kanya's sibling. They sound about the same age, and, if possible, I want to reunite the family. If it turns out not to be then I'm sure she'll have a great life with you and the Why'os. I won't be able to shake the question until we can try to confirm. Could we arrange a meeting?" The little terrier mix looked up towards Navira, her face still thoughtful trying to piece together this seemingly incredulous possibility.

| And there it was. She could already see it on the other chief's face when she turned - that star-bright moment when an idea lit inside her head. Navira wasn't crazy after all. There was a part of her though that hesitated for a moment, thinking about how Jarri had fallen so easily into Why'o life, how she had made such fast friends with the other pups her age. She remembered the scared little ren she'd found only days ago and how she'd so quickly brightened under the clan's care. She was a really great little dog. Navira didn't want to let her go.
But then she forced herself to imagine a scenario where a lost Why'o pup was found after such a devastating separation. She knew that the clan would stop at nothing to get them back. The ants were as close to one another as any Why'o. They had surely grieved for their lost daughter. No, if she was Rith'r Flik, she would need to go home. Her clan deserved to have her back.
"Of course." Navira nodded, bending down to the other dog's level as she spoke. "We got her paired with a mentor - I can send 'em both out to the border between our land if the weather doesn't wash us all away. if she's not who you're looking for, we'll be happy to keep her. She's a good ren and she's already got a lot of friends in Why'o Clan. If she's yours...well." The speckled chief shook her head with a bemused smile. "Then I'm happy for ya. You''re gonna like her."
And then she turned quickly to hide the worry on her face, pretending once again to snuffle around at the base of a thick tree. How was she going to break this news to Jarri and her friends?

She's a good ren and she's already got a lot of friends in Why'o Clan. If she's yours...well... then I'm happy for ya. You're gonna like her," the merle Chief abandoned all attempts at hunting to focus on the conversation. Mouse was glad that the younger canna saw things her way. She didn't want to have to organise a Pulling against her allies just to check the identity of a lost pup. Indeed, meeting this Jarri'hin on neutral ground would be the best course of action.
"I'll be sorry to take her if she's already meshed so well with the Why'os, but I appreciate your understanding that Rith'r Flik stays together. Hopefully her sweet nature will somehow mellow out Kanya's brashness! I'll organise for Huli to meet you at the border between the forest and the town tomorrow to meet her, and Jarri'hin is Rith'r Flik then I'll come meet with you again to bring her home," she laid out the plans, not leaving much wiggle room. Now that Kanya had returned, the thought that Jarri might be her sibling weighed heavily on her mind. She had only just had the news broken to her but she knew she was going to be up all night thinking about it. With Navira already back to looking for some lout, Aba'chek did the same. The Chief wasn't even hungry anymore with so much going through her head. This pata was going to see her starve with the amount of work they were!

| "Yeah." Navira answered, perhaps a bit too shortly. "We'd want ours back too if we were standing in your pawsteps. Rozo'ama akoda sure did turn everything upside down, didn't it?" But...what if Why'os already had their own? No! She couldn't think like that. It wasn't right. If Jarri was Rith'r Flik, she deserved to find her way back to her family - Parents and brothers and sisters and a whole clan of dogs her own size. Where would she be in Why'o Clan when Tavi's litter started outgrowing her even more than they already were?
"Sounds good. We'll have her ready. But hey! I think I caught a snuff of lout. Let's got this way." And with that, she was off with her nose to the ground, following the fresh scent of a nini-muk through the forest. She chose for now to push the thought of losing Jarri out of her mind - That was tomorrow's problem. Or tonight's. But for now...her clan needed to be fed.
