Weak and sickly, he clung close to his mother and his remaining siblings. With fewer pups in the pile, the cold was all that much harsher. And then his mother left. Her warmth was gone. All that remained was the biting cold. In the eternity she was gone, another grew near to their den. In their ignorance, their cries drew the beast closer. Oh, how the pain seared him. How the fear seized him. Frankly, he sought safety in whatever form it would take. As the silence fell in that chaotic space, it was a familiar presence that filled the emptiness. Mother had returned.
And then they were gone. Through new lands and troubled currents to their current home.
