In your eyes I see the eyes of somebody I knew before, long, long, long ago... |
Kanya considered herself to be a very efficient hunter. Yes, her hunts often consisted of sesasi and other crawly things, but it was still food! Right? Many of her new clanmates wrinkled their noses when she presented them with a lizard or a half-dead toad though, and she'd taken great offense to this. The cadet's solution? Keep them all for herself. If the clan couldn't be grateful to her for trying to help build up the lout pile with her own specialty, then she wouldn't bother. Today was no different. Kanya had spent a good chunk of her morning overturning bark and rocks in the forest and quickly pouncing on the little creatures that lived underneath. She'd dug herself a shallow hole at the base of a tree near Rith'r Flik's pell'galu to deposit her winnings. She was just trotting triumphantly back with a spotted salamander clasped in her jaws when she heard it. Something really big was crashing through the brush. Definitely way too big to be ant clan. She didn't immediately stop though - If it was one of those Why'o canna, she was going to chew their hind legs off! They were WAY too close to her cache. She burst from the bushes with a growl, intending to shout at this big canna...but instead the lout fell silently from her jaws when she realized that the thing lumbering around at the base of her tree was definitely not a dog. At least...it didn't look like any dog she'd ever seen before. It was a giant mountain of shaggy brown fur. It was lumpy. It was smelly. And it had the biggest claws she'd ever seen in her whole life. (It didn't have a tail though, which Kanya would later express was even more terrifying. What was big and scary enough to take off a monster's tail?) It was too busy rooting around in her lout pile to notice her right away. She took that opportunity to slowly, quietly back away before it decided to go after her next. When she was sure that she'd backed far enough away from the monster to avoid being eaten, she stopped. A wiser dog might have turned and run away, alerted the clan of danger, but Kanya's brain was still stuck on her lunch. Was there a way to get it back before it slurped everything up? Would it do this every time she tried to hunt? Where in Gods names had it come from? |
But I'm still trying to make my mind up. Am I free or am I tied up? |
