let me make you proud let me give you a reason to believe that I can stand tall Aye'humu was small, and he knew it. How couldn't he? With siblings that towered above him and showed their prowess every chance they got, it did not take long for the young ren to find himself at the bottom of the proverbial totem pole. That is, until the spotted "mama" showed up and, with her, the "star child." Now he was a small canna. It was simple enough for the honey coated pup to overpower this new rival to the horde. But alas, that only left him one to dominate, and the others continued to overpower him at every twist and turn in their small power struggles. Though less political than that of the adults, the struggles were no less brutal. Between pups it ultimately amounted to physical altercations between them. How many times had he challenged his dark-furred sister, Mufara'kah, and ended the confrontation with a dark rump sat upon his head? Too many to count, that was certain. But today, all of that would change. Today was the day that Aye'humu had come to the decision that he would make a name for himself! He had been far too young to fully remember the details but when he was even smaller than his current stature their mother had disappeared. He still did not know the reasons why and had never thought to ask any of his clan mates for answers. Instead, he had opted to accept his predicament as the time had long passed for such trivial knowledge. The pata had been kept alive by the tireless work of the clan's owi. And then the spotted "mama" had arrived and provided them all comfort, warmth, and milk once again. The changing of mothers was of little importance to the ren today. Today it was the disappearance of the father that had sparked Aye'humu's interest. The adults had been looking for the missing canna since the storm - or, since Li'Gru'e had commanded them to weeks later. Those with missing family members had been searching since their disappearance. One of whom was the crying agouti canna about the short, screeching banshee that had haunted the base for awhile. In all honesty, Aye'humu was glad to be rid of the loud shouting that would ring about the greenhouse between the two and the horrible shrieking, sing-song voice. One missing canna stood above all the rest - both metaphorically and physically. That was the canna Aye'humu had been reminded time and time again was his father, Li'Greyo. But Li'Greyo had no family to miss him or search for him immediately following his disappearance. Only a pata that was too preoccupied playing games and gaining life experience to mount a search party. But today all of that changed. The small, golden pup had hoped for a clear day but time was now running short. Three cloudy days in a row? It appeared as though his adventure would have to occur in an overcast setting. Marching into the nursery where the rest of the horde were typically found romping and playing, golden paws carried the pup with an unearned air of importance. His tail was up, his head was up, he mustered any and all dignity his pudgy body could handle. With a stomp of his paw to the dusty ground he let out a mighty yap. "Nu kef, u canna! his voice squeaked out with an attempted dominance. "Papa is still missing and the grown-ups aren't doing anything about it!" He twisted his face as he momentarily lost his concentration in what he was saying, the metaphorical spotlight beaming too brightly on him. "Er- follow me!" he abruptly finished, bounding towards the door with his tail waving high behind him - a beacon for his siblings and adopted brother to follow him. i act | "i talk" | 'i think' |
