YELI'KAH OF RITH'R FLIK CLAN
Yeli is a pretty prideful little guy who tends to think that he's a lot bigger than he actually is. Picture a scrappy little cartoon rolling up his sleeves, ready to beat the tar out of you...but he's only about as tall as your ankle.
That aside, he loves his clan. He loves his clanmates. He loves his job! He can be a quirky, expressive dog with a great sense of humor and a whole wagon full of silly faces that he really didn't mean to make. He's always willing to help out wherever he's needed.
In fact...he's a bit of a hoverer when he thinks he should be helping. His apprentice (or, former apprentice) is not immune to this treatment. He's the kind of dog who will peek over the younger canna's shoulder all the time, dropping hints or asking if he's forgotten this or that. He can be overbearing and stubborn, digging his feet in and throwing his paws up with a "Look, I'm just saying, I would have done it differently!"
He means no harm at all. For all intents and purposes, he's a parent that hasn't shaken that his oldest kid is all grown up and independent now. Plus, he might be just a little miffed that Inda'grair Hu was named Shadowspeaker instead of himself. (He taught the boy, after all!)
Yeli was born in Rith'r Flik Clan. He was named as a future owi from the moment he opened his eyes, for he bore the God's Blessing. He never regretted it for a moment. His parents built him up, told him that he was special and that he had a very important job ahead of him. He took to the role like a duck to water.
In time, he graduated to a full-blown healer. A good one. So good that he was even given a young cadet himself, a spotty little bulldog pup named Inda'grair Hu. He fell again into his new role as a teacher with a stubborn enthusiasm. His pup would make be second best only to himself! In the process of teaching the little one, he fell in love. Not in a romantic way, no, of course not! But he grew very attached to Inda. The two were soon the very best of friends.
In time, they were both rounded up with all of the others and carted off to that blasted prison, the "animal shelter" with many of their other clanmates. When the earthquake fell, Inda searched and searched through the rubble for his apprentice, only to find that the younger canna had run straight back to base without stopping for anyone. Yeli harbors a little grudge about this, but he's never told anyone. He knows that the kid was scared. (But still! Sometimes feelings are irrational)
After Rozo'ama Akoda, Yeli and Inda both received another shock. Inda began seeing visions and was named the clan's new Shadowspeaker. Yeli was bursting with pride for his former cadet, but he also had a confusing mix of other feelings. He still loves the boy, but he now holds tiny, whispering doubts - Did he teach him enough? Is there too much pressure on the kid? Why did the Gods name the younger dog Shadowspeaker instead of himself?
He has sworn that he will never let these doubts get in the way of his relationship with Inda or the way he does his job but...he just can't help trying to help!
Yeli's mother and father both disappeared in the earthquake. The only family that he has left is his former cadet, Inda'grair Hu.
