IRA'TUI RUMM OF WHY'O CLAN
Gentle, soft-spoken, but one-hundred-percent willing to stand up for herself. Ira'tui Rumm was born at the bottom and worked her way up not only because of her giving personality and her loyalty to Why'o Clan, but because she is clever and stubborn and doesn't often take no for an answer. If there's a way to get what she wants, she will find that way. Especially if someone tells her that it's impossible.
She can be a bit obsessive. When she wants to learn something, she sticks to it, sometimes for hours at a time until she gets it right. If you are her friend, you are her best friend. She might talk your ear off about the things she's interested in...or talk someone else's ear off about how great her new best friend is.
She's a giver. She is very observant about what her friends and family like and then thoughtfully gives them gifts when she happens across them. "Tatu likes a ball. She will love this." or "I noticed little Kanu broke his favorite stick the other day. I should bring this home to him."
Because she can easily open human doors and latches, a skill that she obsessed into perfection at a young age, it's not unknown for Ira to sneak into houses to find treasures. Her own litter have as many toys as a pet dog. She thrills in bringing them home a new surprise after a hunt. Spoiled? Nah.
This skill for popping open doors is what gained the Why'o her name - "Brings Down Doors." She is very proud of it.
Ira was born in Why'o Clan. Her father was, supposedly, not a clan dog at all. Ira's mother vehemently denies this, but gossip and rumor is known to spread like wildfire among the close-knit Why'os. When Ira made her appearance in the world, black spot on full display to her two golden coated parents, her father accused her mother of infidelity. Surely her father must have had black fur. Where else would that mark have come from? Two golden dogs simply did not make a puppy with that coloring!
Ira was given the name Kah'hin. Black eye. But many of her peers and even some of the adults called her Thile'wael. The Half Clan One. Both represented a negative aspect of her existence. She swore that someday, she'd shake that name and gain a true place among the clan. She'd become a cannirozer and no one would remember that she was a "half."
For the first few years of her life, she hovered close to the bottom of the ranks. Mentors were hesitant to take her. Some were even quicker to punish her, she felt. Pups her own age made fun of her. She was the last picked for patrols, even. It would seem like she'd never shake her birth history even as an adult.
Relief came in the form of one canna who seemed to accept her completely for who she was. A dog close to her own age, a male named Kirahu. It started with Kirahu allowing her to spend time with him. Before long she was seeking him out when she was lonely. By the time they were two years old, they had become ma'aeda.
And then the great gathering happened, the humans rounding all of the dogs up and shoving them together into the shelter, Kah'hin and Kirahu as well. The earthquake saved them. When the prison fell, she was able to unlock the broken cage and set them free.
And that was how Kah'hin became Ira'tui Rumm. She went from cage to cage wherever a door was locked or stuck and puzzled at it until the trapped canna was freed. Many dogs were pulled from the rubble that day because of the One Who Brings Down Doors.
She returned back to Why'o Clan not as a halfling but as a hero. A few short months later, Ira and Kirahu welcomed their first litter of pups, a healthy litter of five.
And then five became six when a stranger found a lost white pup toddling alone through the base and rightfully assumed that it was one of Ira's litter that had strayed from the nursery. It was presented to Ira, who welcomed it "back" into the fold and didn't bother immediately to count. To be fair, she was exhausted and the tumbling, squeaking bundle all had the same fuzzy white coats.
It was only when she was presenting the pups to a friend, proudly sharing their five given names, when she realized that she had an unnamed spare tucked away with her own.
The young dog's mother was never found, but Ira happily accepted her without question. She swore that the little one would grow up feeling safe and loved and definitely not outcast like herself. Even if that pup had a curly coat and her own brood did not...well. That was okay. Her fur just handled humidity differently.
