Ira was exhausted, yet her trot was swift. The golden mix had spent the day stretched between multiple different important tasks. Hunting, following a faded scent trail for the lost cadets, and meeting a Rith'r Flik canna at the border to deliver the unfortunate news that the pups hadn't been located yet. Both clans had searched tirelessly for the missing pups, but it was as if they had vanished into thin air...or simply left clan territories altogether.
Ira knew that these jobs needed to be done, and she had done them with as much passion as she could muster under the circumstances. Yet, a great part of her was itching to be back home. Her own litter had only just weaned and resuming life as normal was...tough. Sure, she'd gone on walks without them before. Yes, she left them for longer and longer periods of time as any mother might instinctively do to prepare their litter for life beyond the nursery. But to spend most of the day away and leave them with a shift of pupsitters? It was harder than she'd ever imagined.
She couldn't return to the pups with empty jaws today. They always expected a treat when Mom came home, and this long separation would prove no different. On the way home she'd "broken into" one of the grimm's abandoned homes in search of a treat for her litter. In the process, she'd stumbled upon a prize that was better than she could have ever hoped for.
If any of her clan saw her right now, they would probably do a double-take. She was carrying a fluffy, golden toy that bore a striking resemblance to her own pups. It was so lifelike that when she'd found it, her first instinct had been to run over to make sure that the "pup" was okay. Yet it wasn't a real pup at all! The Why'o knew that it needed to come home with her.
And now she was on the home stretch, bounding down a flight of stairs to reach the floor-level hallway that her pups would be racing around on. She gave a nod to the pupsitter on duty, slipped past them, and dropped the toy at her own paws.
And then she whuffed out a pleasant call for her litter to let them know that she had returned.

Abaru watched lazily on her side, has she watched her siblings play around in the hallway. She never cared too much in their rough housing games as she couldnt quite get into a game that didnt have easily followed rules. She was also smaller than her sibilings and felt all she could do is cry under their weight. She missed Mama, she knew that she always comes back, but it didn't mean she didnt miss her when she was gone. Mama understood her best and made her feel important. She knew her litter mates could find her reminders annoying and her care as prideful. She knew Mama didnt see her that way. She knew mama saw her as she wanted to be seen; an obedient and loving member of the clan. She sighed and sat up to scratch her ear, looking towards the hallway, she suddenly caught a whiff of something familiar..something like.. " MAMA!" Abaru, though normally perfectly behaved, couldnt contain her excitement, as she heard her mothers call. The day had been so boring without her favorite person. As she ran to greet her mother she noticed something in on the ground by her feet..something she wasnt sure...! " Mama, what is that?" She called out as she tripped over herself. With a thud she hit the ground, causing a quick whimper from her. She huffed the dust from her nose as she tried to get up. By the time she got up, and shook the fall from herself, she could only hear the chatter of her sibilings around her. Feeling slightly defeated, she looked hopefully up toward her mother, hoping she wouldnt forget her amongst the others. She hoped whatever Mama brought home she would get some before her brothers and sister had consumed it all, whatever it was.

"Hi, Abaru!" She called out pleasantly, wagging her feathered tail with joy as her young daughter raced to greet her. It wasn't long before the rest of Ira's litter joined in as well and the blotched golden's attention was divided among greeting and nuzzling the lot of them. Miera, Kailo, little Nauri. Oh, how she loved this bunch!
"It's a mi'mi." She explained patiently, pushing her way through the crowd of furry, wiggling bodies to give Abaru a good solid sniff to make sure that her trip hadn't injured her. The retriever gave the pup a quick lick across her soft ears. "But look, it looks like you guys!"
And then she picked the toy up once again and deposited it directly at Abaru's paws - Surely the other pups would come swarming in soon to bury their curious noses in its fur, but Abaru had been the one who had expressed interest first. Plus she'd have been first in line if she hadn't tripped.
"Hey, you guys wanna know what I saw today?" She asked, grinning hugely at her litter - They were usually all eager to get a story from mum...and today she had a really good one. The Why'o flopped down in the center of the sea of pups and made herself comfortable so that the pups could snuggle in around her.

Abaru watched as her mom brought the 'mimi' over and dropped it in front of her. Abaru had never heard of such a thing and was cautious as she looked at the plush thing. scrunched her eyes as she felt her mama's tounge swipe across her ears and she sniffed the mimi. It smelt foreign, which makes her slightly cautious. Before she could stuff her nose into the toy again she felt her siblings push around her and effectively move her away from the pup look-a-like. She sighed and shook her head, she would need to examine it more later, figure out its purpose. Her ears pricked up once she heard her mama mention a story! She excitedly shuffled toward Ira and laid down, putting her head on her mothers forearm, her eyes sparkled as she looked up at her. She let out an exaggerated puff as she waited for the rest of her siblings to come listen to mama's story.
As the others moved away from the mimi, she side eyed it, sometimes wishing she was more like her litter mates. Wishing she could play like they did, sometimes wondering what it would be like to not have so many cares to worry about. Maybe they would like her more if she wasn't so....her. Her ears moved backward at the thought. She shook her body violently, as if it would remove all of her doubts and insecurities. She settled down again and waited for mama to begin.

oh When I look back now,
That summer seemed to last forever Lonan couldn't help but be a little dejected that his mother had gone off on some grand adventure without him - even if he knew that her return would most likely be with a treat or tale worth the wait. He wanted to explore too! He'd tried that day to rile some of his siblings into a grand adventure, but sadly none of them had taken the bait. Perhaps due to the missing cadets that the young canna knew nothing of, their pupsitters that day had been more mindful than usual, making it impossible for the pup to properly sneak away from them without assistance. He'd finally given up on his plans for exploration and settled into pouting when the familiar whuff drew his attention. Despite the young afu's attempts to remain petulant for a moment, the wagging of his little tail quickly gave up the goat. Besides - she had something amazing. Running over to investigate the new mimi, Lonan barely had the wherewithal to remember to greet his mother. Looking up at her with big eyes and a wiggling tail he welcomed her with a "Hiya Mama!" With that out of the way, he quickly turned his attention to the fake pup. He eagerly pushed at it with his nose and pawed at it delightedly. The grimm had made such amazing things! He was probably more enamored with the new mimi than his siblings - engrossed in examining it and prodding it. "Was it a new grimm building, mama?" He asked excitedly at her proposal of a story, looking up from his new fascination for the first time. Not that he was disinterested in other stories, but surely wherever she'd found such a delightful gift was surely the most interesting part of any dog's day! Ira'tui Rumm abaru

It wasn't long before she had her litter's attention. Well...mostly. The mimi was a bit of a distraction, but that was okay. While some of the pups clambered around on her paws or tail, others investigated the soft little toy. Yet others...her beloved little Lonan, of course, made an attempt to guess the subject of her story.
"I did explore a grimm home today, Lonan!" She answered her pup, swishing her feathered tail gently in response to his question. Of course he wanted to know more about that! He was obsessed. "I found the mimi there. But I also got to see...a great. Big. Stinky. Haru."
The gold and black canna made sure to emphasize each word playfully, growling out the name of the beast to make for a good story.
"Me and Nahara found him down by the river! Have you guys ever heard the stories about The Haru before? He's the biggest canna you'll ever see in your whole life, but he isn't canna at all. He's a greedy, grumpy, grumbly animal who eats more lout than our whole clan put together."

Abaru flinched at each word her mother used to describe the scary Haru. Though she had obviously never seen one is real life, she had no desire to ever meet one. The unpredictability of any other creature made her nervous in general. She looked over at Lonan and only felt bewildered by the curiosity that masked his face. She continued to watch her mama as she explained the enormous creature that her imagination couldn't seem to create. She shook her body, as if to rid herself of the thought of what a creature like that would do. She felt like there was so many unknowns outside of the safety of the walls of their home. So many rules that hadn't been made yet, and all it did was make her feel anxious.
Not wanting to interrupt mamas story she resettled back down, hoping the uneasiness she felt wouldn't be felt by anyone else around her. To mask her unsettled state she decided to ask mama a question, " Mama, what did you do? Did you run away?", asking as calmly as she can. Though she wanted to ask more questions, she decided now wasn't the time and that she could interrogate her mother more later if needed. She was hoping to calm her nerves by taking a mental note about what to do if she were ever to encounter such a creature. Mama always knew what to do, so no better time to ask then now.
