It was way too hot for Yeli's liking today. The merle chihuahua had grown quite used to being underground or shaded by trees, or at the very least hunkered down in his den tending a patient in relative comfort. Now, he was on the outskirts of the forest bordering the railyard with a bright, midday sun beaming down hard upon the sparse canopy overhead. He squinted his multicolored eyes up at the treetops, frowning at them for not doing their job very well. Nope. In this part of the forest the trees were too far apart to offer much shelter at all. What even was their purpose then, if not to shelter aba'canna from not only the sun, but also the threat of sky hunters?
He had been drawn to this place for a reason though and he wasn't turning back now, skri and sun be damned. Even from a distance he could hear it - The distinct buzzing drone of a hive of aye-aye hard at work. Tall mottled ears swiveled this way and that as the Rith'r Flik owi marched onward, guided by the sound as a moth to a flame. Humu was a valuable resource to owi and one that didn't grow everywhere...and definitely not within most Rith'r Flik's reach. Yeli'kah had a good feeling about this one though. It didn't sound like it was coming from the treetops.
And then...aha! There it was.
"Aya! Aren't you a pretty sight." Yeli'kah found himself saying, grinning with triumph as he approached his treasure. Looming in front of him, barely out of the chihuahua's reach, was a broken tree stump swarming with busy aye-aye. Somewhere in that dangerous pile of flik, he would find all the golden humu that his clan would ever need. At least...well. Enough to get them through until Ridna had flowers in her fur again. Now...he just had to figure out how to get up there without being skewered alive by aye-aye stingers.
