There are many gods known Canna. They are powerful and sacred, ruthless and loving. They take the form of Canna like nothing we've ever seen on Earth before. And yet is a part of them in all Earth creatures big and small. That is why the stories must be passed down at all costs. No dog should forget the gods who created him.

Some of the stories that are told are seemingly pup parables. Others are origin stories. They can be told with as much life and detail as is desired. But never forget...they are all equally important.

THE GREAT CREATION

It was the great Canna Rot'zo who started the creation of the world with his booming bark. It created a great, thundering storm that shook the heavens to pieces and shattered them, creating Earth beneath his paws. Mountains, hills, streams and valleys. We can thank him for creating the world that we live on. It was he that barked and howled and shaped it with song. That is why we Canna howl. It is the song of our Father in our hearts. When we sing, we are close to him. When thunder rumbles through the sky, it is his voice that we hear.

In his wake came his daughter, Ridna'kah, who herself was born of a dark spot on her father's side. That is why she is as black as the night. She bounded all across the new world, kicking and playing, and in her pawprints trees and plants of all sorts grew. And from those groves came animals...and wolves. They were the first dogs, wild and free and playful, but they would not be controlled by anything. They say that this is Ridna's spirit in them. They are untamed children. We still carry a bit of this in us today. And when she was finished, she stretched her dark pelt across the sky and rested.

Behind Ridna'kah came her sister, Rahani'hu. She was slow and careful, gazing upon the new creatures that her beloved sister had created with a warm smile. Love was clear in her gaze. She bent to kiss the wolves, and with that kiss her love was transferred to each and every one of them. Now Rahani'hu's gift is one that came with a price. With the love and happiness that she gave them, sadness came. Why? Because no creature can experience happiness without first knowing sadness.

Rahani'hu gave the wolves four seasons, four changing pelts much like her own that was eternally phasing into different colors. There was spring, the season of love and rebirth. Summer, where every creature could raise their offspring and have a fat, happy time. Fall, the season of preparation, a beautiful, brightly colored warning for what was to come. And finally winter, where all of Ridna'kah's plants and creatures would rest under ice and wait for spring to come again.

It was in this manner that the world came to be. We can thank Rot'zo, Rahani'hu, and Ridna'kah for creating us. Give thanks, children.

LEGEND OF SHADOWS

We mentioned the gift of Rahani'hu's sadness. Now he must have a name. Rahani'hu loved the animals of the world so much that her heart broke right in two when she felt their pain. Half of her heart fell away and grew into a sleek and handsome black Canna...a dog who would become her mate, her other half. Rumblier. Yes, you know his name. He is the Shadow. He hears the first breath of the pup and the last of the elder.

When a dog leaves this world behind, it is on the call of Rumblier. He appears to every creature in the form of darkness and shadows, or nothing more than a soft whisper in your ear, coaxing you to join him among the stars. It doesn't matter if you fight him though. In the end you will lose your will to fend him off. When Rumblier calls you, you are his. He will pull the breath from your body and release it onto a breeze that will guide your path into the heavens once and for all. The ones that you left behind will see you as nothing more than a winking star shining down from the blackness of the night sky.

Restephus And U'less And The Great Wars

Restephus was the first of Rahani'hu and Rumblier's children. He was a Canna who came into the world gnashing his teeth. Even his parents were frightened of him. They kept him locked away in the depths of the Earth where he could harm no creature.

His brother U'less came next. He was a playful, mischievous sort, just like his aunt Ridna'kah. His parents allowed him to romp and run with her wherever he pleased, so long as he didn't visit the center of the earth where his brother was kept locked away. But his playfulness came at great cost to the world.

You see, up to this point, no animal ate another, only plants. Wolves and man had lived together and created a new breed, Dog. The Earth was a fairly peaceful place.

One day U'less was running round the world, playing and creating all sorts of trouble for his parents, when the Earth began to rumble. He realized that this rumbling was coming from the center of the world, the place where his parents told him not to go. Now U'less was not one to listen to anyone.

He cracked open the Earth and out popped a very angry Restephus. He pounced on U'less, intending to kill him right then and there, but U'less was a very smooth talker. You can just imagine the things that he said in order to keep his brother from killing him, but in the end he somehow convinced Restephus that he had a great plan in store for him. One that he'd been meaning to execute for a long time.

With Restephus in tow, U'less went round to every creature that he could find and whispered things into their ears. Mischievious, decietful things, things that pitted each and every one of them against each other. And then they were touched by Restephus' 'blessing'. He bestowed on every heart a bit of the anger that he had been holding. Every creature burned with a new temper. Many grew fangs while others ran, confused as to why they were being attacked.

The world was quickly split into chaos and war. Territories were divided and fought over, blood was spilled, and alliances were made and broken. Many dogs were pitted against their former masters, Man. Rumors flew round, and some dogs sided with Man while others rejected his hand and went their own way. No one could be sure what was true at this point, you see. And U'less danced in it, for he adored contention.

It was the great god Rot'zo who finally put a stop to it all. He confronted Restephus himself in a great battle of thunder and rain equivelant to that which created the world in the first place. They battled in the rain until it pooled around their giant paws and flooded the entire Earth. Many sought shelter on high hills, broken trees, anything that they could find. Restephus was strong and angry, but he was no match for his grandfather. He was locked away once more in the bowels of the Earth. Legend says that sometimes the whole Earth will shake and split, and that is Restephus trying once again to escape.

U'less would have been punished as well, but he darted away into the heavens and hid for many, many years.

The GODS' BLESSING

To this day war and contention exist in the hearts of many because of Rastephus and U'less. Animals still kill one another, fight over territory, and carry tongues as sharp as cat's claws. In a great way, Restephus and U'less changed the world. And there was no going back. Eventually U'less crept down from the heavens and began to make mischief again. A sudden squall, a flared temper, anywhere that he can show himself. His pack is always there to chase him away in the end. He will likely never have the power that he once had over Canna.

Still, he did change things. Animals were in much more danger than they ever were before. Rumblier was the one who finally spoke to Rot'zo about the changes. For every dog that survived at the teeth of another three more would join the stars.

Rot'zo agreed that something needed to change. He gathered both his pack and the animals of the world and asked them to give every creature a new blessing, something to make their fight for life equal. Some creatures recieved strong hearing, and others sharp teeth. Some were made to run like the wind. Every animal was given a special gift, each one different than another. Some would be clever, dexteretous, or even better at hiding than others. Today we call this the Mato'jabi, or 'best skill'. Every creature has one, not just Canna.

Today we use this to our advantage in our packs. Every dog has his one special skill that makes him more valuable to the group.

Others were called forward by Rahani'hu herself. She gently touched the eyelids of these chosen few, and when they opened their eyes again they saw new and marvelous things. Bits of heaven shone in their vision. "To speak to us." Rahani'hu told them. These dogs became what we know today as healers. They have been blessed with the wisdom of the gods themselves. Every dog that bears the Sight in their eyes is destined to become a healer.
