"ARE YOU SURE THIS WATER'S SANITARY? IT LOOKS QUESTIONABLE TO ME!"
|
| "G-guys? Where'd ya go?" A small, timid voice echoed through the damp, dark hallways of the Why'o prison, quickly followed by a lanky black and white pup as he rounded yet another corner in search of his brother and sister. They had seemingly snuck off yet again, only this time he had been away at breakfast when their plans were being hatched. Whatever they'd been up to, they must have had to leave in a hurry. Lendri gave a little huff of annoyance as he padded down the halls. He really wasn't the kind of ren that liked to take risks, but that didn't mean that it wasn't disappointing to realize that he would be all alone for the day. Even his mother was gone, likely out leaving huffa or hunting lout with the rest of the clan.
It was so much fun when they all stayed together and played games at home! He kicked at a little rock as he walked, watching it bounce ahead and then stop and wait for him to catch up. There'd be time in the future for all of the bigger stuff. After all, with the next blink of Ridna's eye, they would each be given a mentor and they wouldn't have to sneak off to have adventures. They wouldn't get that awful disapproving look from their mom or Li'Navira when they were caught trying to slip off to see that spooky forest or Ah'mir clan's river crossings.
Lendri was so wrapped up in his own grumpy thoughts that he didn't realize how close he was to a steep stairwell. Before he could stop himself, he found himself lurched forward and tumbling, tumbling down the filthy stairs at top speed, bumping and bruising himself all the way down until he hit the concrete bottom nose first.
The little Why'o lay there in a cloud of shock and dust for a moment before slowly picking himself up with a shaky little groan of pain. His nose, where he had banged it, felt raw and wet, and when he pushed his tongue out to lick it, he came away with the taste of blood. Ever so carefully he started to right himself, but yelped pitifully when weight was pressed down on his right front paw. He drew it up close to his chest and gazed down the empty halls with a quivering lip, wondering how he was going to get back to his clan through those winding hallways - And if anyone would even be there to comfort him when he made it.

We never know what choices will lead to defining moments in our lives The Why'O clan may be known for its raucous nature, but Udu'e Canna'a still welcomed the occasional bout of silence. It made for a good change of pace amidst her wild clanmates. Walking the unusually silent halls of their prison home, the soft buzz of the other Why'Os reached her ears through the echoing halls. Indistinguishable, but for the fact that they were canna in nature. Udu'e's pawsteps were taking her outside, at least, that was the intent. She had been planning on searching for herbs in the morning light. But as fate would have it, what greeted her was something else entirely. She heard it before she saw it. The bumps and thumps of someone taking a tumble followed by a yelp. Concerned, the Shadowspeaker rushed to find the source of the troubling noise. Rounding the corner, she found her answer in the cloud of dust surrounding the spotted form of young Lendri. Her relief was short-lived as the tangy scent of blood and the redness of the Ren's nose summoned her nature as a healer. "That was quite the tumble," she remarked calmly, but sternly. Analyzing the situation, from the way the Ren was holding his paw, it appeared to be injured. Lendri would likely need some support to move quickly. "Let's get back to Base." Udu'e wouldn't be able to give proper treatment here. Notes and things can go here

★⸻𝒌𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊⸻★ Almost like a haunting ghoul, Kitchi-Kitchi's petite form came padding through the halls. The sounds of her small claws clicking against the floor would be trigger to anyone who wasn't a fan of her. Her tail was proudly flicked in the air, her pace confident as she soon rounded the corner and focused her sectoral-heterochromia eyes on Lendri.
"How pitiful." The words lacked any affection, a cruel snicker coming from the young she-dog. Her eyes fluttered innocently towards Udu'e as she spoke with utmost respect. "Let me help him to his paws."
Despite being the ren of a healer, there was little kindness to her actions as she began to bump her nose against Lendri's shoulder. She was definitely pushy, and disinterested in having her clanmate fight against her efforts.
"Come on, you big wimp." She whispered, trying to keep her voice low so that the comment was only shared with the other apprentice. Her distaste was tangible as she shoved her head against his ribs to try and shove him to his paws. "You're like a pup, can't even walk down some stairs." She huffed from her efforts.
Lendri was definitely larger with his gangly limbs, but it was clear in this moment who had the upper-paw.

"ARE YOU SURE THIS WATER'S SANITARY? IT LOOKS QUESTIONABLE TO ME!"

| Lendri didn't have to wait long before rescue came in the form of a dog that, in the pup's eyes, may as well have been one of the Gods...Rahani'hu herself come to save him. He found himself gazing awkwardly up at a mountain of beautiful, dappled fur, at the top of which sat a gentle face. It was the face of their newest Shadowspeaker, Udu'e.
The sight of her brought such relief to the young pup that his lower lip began to quiver even while his tail tapped the ground at his rear. He nodded soundlessly when she offered to take him back to base. The young hound could have easily cried with relief, happy that he didn't have to drag himself back all alone.
His comfort, however, was short lived when another much smaller figure appeared from behind the great Shadowspeaker with the wicked expression of Restephus himself. Lendri visibly wilted at the sight of Kitchi-kitchi. He should have known she'd be right behind Udu'e. As far back as he could remember, Kitchi had hated him. He couldn't begin to know why. Hard as he tried to avoid this speckled menace, she somehow always found him...his own personal dark cloud, ready to rain on his day whenever she liked.
"No, wait!" He whimpered as she closed in on him. He stumbled to his paws and then fell back again, unable to hold his own weight on the injured one. He drew it back up, trembling slightly. "I-I..." His breath caught in his throat when she began to whisper insults into his drooping ears. He swallowed back the excuses that he was going to make. A deep, pained frown had taken place of his words. Why was Kitchi always like this?
He wanted time to sit and think about his next move, but Kitchi-kitchi was still shoving him hard with her nose. He stumbled to his paws with a shaky breath, knowing full well that she wasn't going to leave him alone until he was on his paws. There was no kindness in helping him up. He knew this. But if he was up, he could get away from her.
"I'm up." He said ever so quietly, yet with a clear stubbornness. "I'm up." Clearer this time. His tail and ears still drooped though and he cast a wary eye at his bully, afraid that she would tip him over while his bad paw was drawn to his chest. "I...I'm ready to go home now, Udu'e." He said, addressing the healer now with as much respect as he could muster. Respect for Udu'e. Not Kitchi. As he spoke, he limped heavily over to stand beside the bigger dog, hoping that he could find refuge in her shadow. He only hoped that she wouldn't make him go all the way back to the healer's rooms to have his injuries fixed. He'd much rather just go home and figure it out for himself. Anything to avoid his bully. And...the sound of getting herbs shoved into his face didn't sound very appealing either. What if they gave him the wrong ones and accidentally killed him? Definitely not worth the risk. Nope, home sounded good.

We never know what choices will lead to defining moments in our lives There was no shortage of little ones in the clan with Lendri, his siblings, and Kitchi. Some were lucky enough to make it out with most of their family as Lendri had. Others, like Kitchi, were not as fortunate. Udu'e, herself, had lost both her beloved parents to Rozo'ama Akoda. Because of that, she felt a little closer to Kitchi-Kitchi. Even so, she tried not to play favorites. A fine smile graced her lips as she slowly wagged her tail in response to Lendri's own tapping tail. She was quite happy to be a source of comfort for the pup. Looking at Kitchi, the snicker that seemed to come from Kitchi drew a concerned frown from Udu'e, but the thick-furred fae brushed it off. She was sure she imagined it from the innocent look Kitchi gave her. "That is very kind of you, Kitchi.""Don't rush him," she said gently watching the two struggle, "It won't do for Lendri to get further hurt." The paw must hurt, and Lendri certainly wasn't very comfortable from his whimpers and drooping ears. Kitchi's rough manners likely weren't helping matters either. It seemed the Why'O clan would have many gruff owi in the future with her twin and Hara'Mukha and Kitchi adding to the mix later. "Excellent," Udu'e smiled graciously. "Good job, Lendri," she praised and gentled nuzzled the pup when he made his way over to her. "You as well, Kitchi." Turning to her apprentice, she gave an apologetic smile, "I'm afraid we will have to postpone our lesson for later." Taking Lendri back and treating his injuries were the more pressing issues at the moment. Udu'e started walking, making sure to match her pace with Lendri and keep a close on the injured pup. "Let me know if you need to rest." Though Kitchi and Lendri didn't appear to get along, Kitchi would need to put aside those feelings to properly help Lendri. "Please assist Lendri, Kitchi."Notes and things can go here

★⸻𝒌𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊⸻★ A lot of dogs assumed Kitchi was simply fearless. She took on all challenges without hesitation. The truth was, she was simply angry and careless. She had lost her family and felt she was missing something that Lendri had. Her strange eyes followed Lendri as he limped up to Udu'e, and once her gaze was on her mentor she immediately lit up.
"That's okay. Maybe you can show me how we handle Lendri's leg?" She padded up to the collie and the poor bicolored pup. While she did seem manipulative and cruel, she did earnestly like Udu'e. The she-dog was kind and while Kitchi was too frightened to get attached--she had a motherly nature about her that made the smaller collie-mix crave her approval.
She moved to Lendri's side, her posture still confident as she bared her teeth at Lendri in a false smile. "You can lean on me." Her eyes were almost sickeningly sweet, something dark and possessive lingering in her core. One day she would grow out of this, surely.
Nonetheless, she wouldn't be foolish in front of her mentor. She had an appearance to keep up, after all. She prepared herself to take on the male's weight if he decided to incline on her for the rest of the way. "It would be silly not to receive help from Udu'e. What if you damaged something and it heals crooked?" If she were anyone else these words were seem truly concerned.

| For the most part, Lendri remained a silent, sullen figure in the background as Udu'e and Kitchi spoke. Sometimes to one another, sometimes to him. When Udu'e suggested that he let her know if he needed to rest, the pup nodded without a word, but promised himself that he wouldn't need it. All he needed was to get back home as quickly as he could to sleep off his injuries.
But no! The healer and her apprentice had other plans for him and weren't taking no for an answer. Lendri ducked his head low and winced as Kitchi insisted that he not only go back to the healer's den, but also lean against her along the way. In his mind he pictured a few scenarios, most of them involving the frightening little dog "accidentally" pushing him down another flight of stairs. He'd never make it back home at this rate.
But she did have a point. His leg was absolutely throbbing now, and if it wasn't looked after properly then he might be limping around on it like this forever. And...looking between Udu'e and Kitchi-kitchi, he knew he didn't have a choice. With a small whine and a nervous lick of his bloodied nose he relented, standing side-by-side with Kitchi, yet trying to touch her as little as possible for now. A part of him feared something crazy happening like her fur electrocuting him just for getting too close.
As they set off slowly for home, he muttered nervously in the older ren's direction, "I'm really sorry I ruined your lesson."
He really did mean it. It was completely his fault, and now she had a real reason to be angry with him. He didn't blame her at all for this one. What ele'cannara wouldn't be disappointed about missing a big day with their mentor?

[googlefont=Righteous][googlefont=Vast Shadow] We never know what choices will lead to defining moments in our lives Udu'e smiled at her mentee, "Certainly. If that will make up for the missed lesson, I'd be happy to." It wasn't what she had planned for today, but it would still make a good learning experience. The long-furred Shadowspeaker inclined her head at Lendri, "If that is alright with you, Lendri." He was the patient after all. It wouldn't do to make the patient uncomfortable. Lendri's muttered apology brought an affectionate look to Udu'e. "It's quite alright. As much as I am Kitchi's mentor, I am also the clan's Shadowspeaker. You are both important to me." Udu'e loved her clan. She would do anything to protect her clanmates. They were all her beloved family. "It is Lendri's choice if he wishes to receive treatment," Udu'e said serenely, "But Kitchi is right that it would be best to do so." While she would accept his choice if he refused, she would still keep a close eye on him and intervene if things got worse. While she did notice the nervous energy between the two pups, especially Lendri, she didn't think much of it. It only seemed natural that he'd be nervous given his injury. That and he and Kitchi didn't seem to have the best relationship, but that was something that could improve with time. Notes and things can go here
