The sun hung lazily in the sky. Overhead was nothing but clear blue. Considering all of the snow that then turned into the constant rainy days, today was a wonderful, sunny day. Today was Kukuk's kind of day.
The husky had taken advantage of the weather to step outside and do some "work." That was what Li'Navira had expected of all of the Ele'cannas, wasn't it? Always working. Patrol there, hunt for that, it was all so much... effort. Padding down the streets he hardly paid attention to where he was going or where he had been. His head wobbled playfully as he trotted, almost as if the darn thing were entirely empty. Yes, today he was doing good work. He would patrol this way and that and enjoy the fresh air that hinted at the new season that lay right around the corner. His tail wagged like a flag behind him.
He paused only briefly to survey the lay of the land. There! Half a block away lay a large metal beast that the humans had used to haul things. Sometimes one could even find food spilling out of the backs of them since the Rozo'ama Akoda. Though, that was far less likely as time went on. Still, this one had a pile of crates behind it that made the ascent to the top - or upward facing side - of the truck a breeze for a larger canna like himself.
Humming to himself, he hopped his way up, not giving a care of any toppling crates that gave way beneath him as he jumped from one to the other. Once he reached the top of his conquest he plopped down, rolling onto his back to enjoy the warm rays on his belly. After a few minutes he rubbed his face with a front paw, dragging the pads from the top of his head down to his nose. There was something he felt he was forgetting... He paused only briefly in his leisure to realize - oh yeah! Wasn't there a pup he was supposed to be training?

Her mentor seemed like the strong but silent type. Lendri had told her about Likal, and he seemed like the strong but prickly type, and though she felt guilty saying it, she was glad she didn't have the rough collie as a mentor. Instead, she got Kukuk! He hadn't said a word to her so far on their patrol, and Jarri took that as a sign to keep quiet and have sharp eyes scanning for any signs of danger. Patrolling was serious business! She knew all about the dangers of rogues, and how to treat them! She wasn't quite tall enough yet to really do much, but she knew the theory!
Suddenly, her mentor spun on his heels towards a new target, a towering pile of crates and boxes beside one of the perpetually silent metal beasts. Jarri'hin sucked in a sharp inhale to prepare for whatever her mentor had seen. It must be something important, the humming from his throat surely was him warming up to release the famous Why'o howl to warn off whatever canna or animal was rooting around over there. Trying to make herself look intimidating, the fur on her hackles raised up and her tail was held high above her back. She was ready!
Ready for a valiant battle that is. Not ready for her mentor to leap what looked like ten miles up into the air away from her on top of the boxes. Her jaw fell open at Kukuk's athletic prowess. It seemed impossible for her to get up that high! Gritting her teeth, the little heeler scooted backwards. She was a Why'o! She could do this!! Springing full speed at the boxes, she leapt - with all the height that her little legs could muster - and managed to land on top of the first box... with her front paws and chest. The telling slam and oomph of someone missing a jump would definitely be obvious to whatever Kukuk had seen, and she didn't want whatever it was to find her hanging her butt off the box! With a bit of effort, she scrabbled up until at last, all four paws were safe atop the herculean box. Only... four more to go. Without a running start, it was much more of a battle to scratch her way up the second box.
Chest heaving, she peered up to see the paws of her mentor in the air. She was only halfway up the stack, and getting up to the top where he was just out of the question. Maybe next month she'd be taller and actually be able to get up these boxes like Kukuk had! It didn't hurt to ask the canna in charge if he expected her to do the same as him. She would totally hunker down and do it if he did, but it was really really hard! "Excuse me, Kukuk? Do I have to get all the way up there?" Her head tilted to the side, eyes squinting as she looked up towards the sun.

Dark ears perked upon the husky's head at the small voice he heard calling to him. 'What? Who?' he thought silently to himself before rolling over. Crawling forward on his belly, he inched to peer over the side of the turned over truck bed. His ears flicked over as the agouti face peaked down at the small canna who had called out the question to him.
"Oh! There you are!" he half-exclaimed, half-mumbled. His jaw dropped in a smile, allowing his tongue to loll about lazily. His tail wagged in a wide, sweeping motion behind him. He cocked his head a bit as he momentarily thought on her question. The male's features all brightened as he came up with his answer. "Well..." he started, rising to his feet and stepping down to a couple of crates below the summit. "Do you want to go all the way up there? he asked, lowering his head to be directly at eye level with Jarri's, his body a tower next to her own. His tone was somewhat serious and he failed to note how he may have inadvertently appeared almost intimidating to his shorter companion.
Free-thinking as he was, Kukuk was not one to really tell anyone what to do. He wasn't even sure what he was supposed to do with an apprentice, let alone how or what to train them. Why had Li'Navira assigned him one, anyways? It was nice to have a little buddy, that was for sure. But Kukuk was a social being through and through. It had never crossed his mind that having an apprentice might have been a learning experience granted to him as well as the ren he'd mentor.

Jarri's squinting eyes up at her mentor basking in the sun were finally able to open a bit more when the shadow of his head peeked over the top of the boxes. The canna quickly moved down a few boxes to be more on her level, a kindness she was grateful for. "Oh! There you are! Well... do you want to go all the way up there?" Jarri tilted her head to the side, the question bringing on more insightful thinking than she expected. She did want to go up there, but more so that she could prove herself as a strong independent Why'o to Kukuk! He managed to make it up there in a matter of seconds! In double the time, she had only managed to make it up one of the boxes.
Maybe she didn't actually want to get to the top, she just wanted to prove herself. It seemed awfully dangerous to be up that high, and it would be really hard to get down... "I want to go up there cus you went up there! I want to be a great Why'o like you! But... I don't want to go up there cus I don't want to fall down and hurt myself like Lendri did..." the pup trailed off, her gaze turning back towards the top of the pile briefly before back at her mentor. "Are there any smaller boxes around maybe? So I could practice and be as good as you one day?" she asked, hopeful that the canna she looked up to so much would have the opportunity to teach her his skills.
