"Rah'ki." Navira said softly. And then a little louder, "Rah'ki Navir, wake up!" She nudged the sleeping canna not-so-gently round his cheek. Her heart was thudding wildly in her chest. For some reason, this was making her feel so nervous! Okay, maybe she kind of knew why. She was the chief of Why'o Clan.
She bossed dogs around all day for good reason - Patrols and hunting lout and telling them to keep an eye out for that Gods-forsaken stray bear. If she invited a dog out into the forest, it was for good reason. For the good of the whole clan! Would he think that she was being silly? Wasteful? Would he tell her to go away and let him sleep?
And yet, here she stood, nudging her friend awake so that they could sneak away from the rest of Why'o in the middle of the night...because she really wanted to show him what she'd discovered this evening in the meadow. "Their" meadow, she had found herself calling it inside her own head. They had discovered it after all. There wasn't a dog in the clan that she'd rather share this discovery with first than Rah'ki. Everyone else could come and gawk later.
The collie mix placed a paw on Rah'ki's shoulder and gave him a good shake.
"Rah'ki, I need you to get up because I have something to show you!" She hissed into his ear again, sounding for all the world like an impatient pup instead of a very mature, level-headed clan leader.

He'd been dreaming. Rah'ki wasn't sure WHAT he'd been dreaming about, but it must have been good, because he ignored the voice softly calling his name and the not-so-soft nudge. He idly noted the voice belonged to Navira. Another part of him noted that there was no urgency in her voice. Well, no, there WAS urgency in her voice, but nothing that said there was danger.
And if there HAD been danger, she would have woken up the entire Clan, not just him. So Rah'ki was content to turn his head away from her and cover his eyes with his paw, grumbling wordlessly. The shove against his shoulder wasn't as easily ignored though, nor was the hiss of his name. Rah'ki sighed deep and prayed to Rot'zo for patience before moving his paw just enough to look up at his friend.
The excitement on her face made his instinctive glare soften, and Rah'ki huffed before fully removing his paw and looking tiredly up at her. "What do you want, 'vira?" he grumped, voice a sleepy, raspy grumble. Like a roll of thunder from a storm miles away.

Alright, the glaring and grumpy grumbling definitely weren't helping her nerves at all. She stopped shaking Rah'ki's shoulder, drew her paw back and hesitated, wondering if perhaps she should just leave him to drift back off to sleep.
But then he finally uncovered his face and looked up at her and she couldn't help but break out into a big goofy grin. He looked like a sleepy haru, but he wasn't too mad. Maybe? Either way, her tail had once again begun to wag excitedly at the thought of rolling him out of bed and into the meadow tonight.
"I want to show you something." She repeated patiently. "Out in our meadow, right now. It's a night thing, so you can't go back to sleep." And then she added quickly, "And you can't wake anybody else up, so be quiet. But come on, get up, ya lazy bones! You won't regret it, I promise."
As she chattered quietly, Navira had already danced a few steps backwards, ready to slip away as quickly as she could with Rah'ki in tow. That is, if he didn't have one of those fancy stretching routines that some dogs just had to do before they started their day. She really, really hoped that he didn't, because she was about to burst here...and it was written all over her speckled face.

Navira thankfully stopped shaking him as soon as he responded, and she even stepped back. The nervous look on her face disappeared so quickly when he looked that he wondered if he'd imagined it. She was certainly excited about SOMETHING though, as expressed by her big grin and wagging tail.
Rah'ki was going to ignore that warm feeling in his chest at the phrase of 'our meadow' and examine it never. So it was a secret night thing she wanted him to see? He debated just turning around and going back to sleep and seeing it another night, but he was curious. So he sighed heavily and huffed quietly, "Only because it's you, Navira."
Carefully he hauled himself up to his paws and stretched, fully aware of Navira dancing impatiently only steps away. Front legs first, then the back legs in turn. "Always stretch before a run or risk a strained muscle." he intoned like he was quoting. And he was. It had been something Canna'eu had drilled into him even before he became a cadet. And wasn't it both a wonder and dreadful that the thought of his father figure didn't tear his heart in two anymore?
Finally he was ready, and Rah'ki padded toward Navira. "Alright, ready. Where to, Li'Navira?" he asked with about eighty percent teasing on the title.

Navira couldn't hold back an impatient eye-roll when it became apparent that Rah'ki did indeed have a methodical stretch to work out before they could get moving. Of course he did! But a small smile still twitched at the corners of her lips in response to his recitation. He sounded like an elder. Probably because he'd been raised by one.
And then, finally!
"The meadow! Come on. But shh!" She said, wasting no time in falling into step at her clanmate's shoulder to guide him quietly out of the dark room. Around the snoring dog piles. Through the nearly pitch black corridors, out the front door...and...aha! Here they were. And they hadn't woken anybody up!
As the two stepped out into the moonlight, Navira bounded around to stand in front of Rah'ki, tail wagging like a ren. A mischievous spark shone in her eyes. No point in hanging around in the doorway!
"Alright, let's see if that fancy stretch worked. Race ya there! Readysetgo!"
And then, without waiting for her friend to agree or disagree to a midnight race, she bolted off in the direction of the forest. If they hurried, they wouldn't miss the chance to see the spectacle tucked away in that hidden glade.

The instinct to purposefully drag his paws was strong. Rah'ki didn't consider himself immature, not often, but he couldn't help it. Navira just brought out his inner pup.
He resisted the urge long enough for them to sneak passed the sleeping piles of canna, his nose wrinkling in amusement at each snuffle, shuffle, and shift from his Clanmates. He'd never call any one of his fellow Why'o lazy, even the actually lazy ones, but he trusted in their exhaustion to keep them sleeping.
Work hard, play hard, sleep hard. That was the Why'o way.
The hallways of their home were pitch black, barely enough to see. So Rah'ki didn't try. He let Navira steer him through their pell'galu and out into the open. After the darkness, the light of the moon was near blinding. Not as blinding as the sun would have been, but enough that Rah'ki had to blink.
He huffed a laugh as she pranced ahead of him. The way the moon lit up the silver parts of her pelt and highlighted the dark, she looked like a piece of the night sky had fallen and wrapped around her. It gave her a majestic look that was immediately at odds with the mischievous smile on her muzzle.
The only thing that surprised Rah'ki about the impromptu race was how NOT surprised he was by it. Either they were spending that much time together or he knew her that well, because immediately after she started running he was right behind her.
