It felt like the rumbling and crashing would never stop. All around Kahru, debris fell, the ground shook, and dust choked the air. Even after the earthquake itself had finally stopped, Kahru could still hear pieces of the roof falling on top of the slab of cement that he was huddled under. The little pup had hardly any room left to wiggle his paws around to cover his head. His entire body shook. How had he ended up here? One minute he was playing in his kennel next to an older dog with a dingy grey coat. The next the whole world was falling apart. Kahru wanted so badly to escape - He could hear other dogs shouting in panic over the earth-shattering racket, but he couldn't get to them. The chain walls of his kennel had prevented him from escaping. He never saw what happened to the grey dog. The cloud of dust and debris quickly became too thick to see. Eventually the walls began to crumble and split and concrete, wood, and chain tumbled down over Kahru, enveloping him in darkness. When the noises finally stopped, Kahru remained quiet and still for a long time, just listening to his own rapid breathing. Hey! He was breathing! He wiggled his toes, which were still clutching the top of his head. He shifted his tail and felt a wall at his rear. He put his paws down and shuffled forward. His nose bonked another wall. He had barely enough room to wiggle forward and backwards a few steps. He coughed. He felt like his tongue was covered in dirt. The pup cocked his head and listened carefully. Was there anyone else out there? Had they all run away? "H-hello?" He rasped and coughed again. His throat was so dry. "Hello?" Kahru was definitely, very much too old to cry, but his lower lip had a mind of its own. It began to quiver. And before he could stop himself, hot tears were streaming down the little pup's dust caked face.

It all happened so fast. One moment she was curled up in her cage, waiting for her humans to come get her. Then suddenly the world tilted, a thunderous roar tearing the world asunder. The walls of the sheltered cracked and the roof caved in, right over Jemma's head. She squeaked and squeezed her eyes shut, expecting them to never open again, but a metallic clang crash made her flinch and open them.
There was a slab of stone right over her. The cage had saved her life. Jemma whined, low in her throat, as the roar finally passed. Dust and debris settled, until the silence echoed somehow louder. Jemma pricked her ears and crawled forward, but clinched when the cage whined around her. Alright then, staying still until rescue came.
A voice? Somebody survived! But the voice sounded so young... Poor thing must have been terrified. "Hello? Are you there?" she called, keeping an eye on the shiny wires around her. Maybe she could use the stone to escape somehow... If only just to get to that pup. "Are you okay?"

"Hello? Are you there?" Kahru's wet sniffling stopped. He raised his head ever so slightly and perked his ears, which folded under the roof of entrapment hovering just above. He didn't respond right away, unsure if he had actually heard a real voice or not. It had been pretty muffled and he'd been crying pretty hard for a minute there. He took one oversized paw and wiped his snotty nose on the back of it, then sniffled hard. "Are you okay?" His heart leaped happily and his tail began to thump thump thump on the wall at his rear. He wasn't alone! He was going to be saved. There was a dog out there that sounded an awful lot like a grown-up, and she was going to come and dig him out and help him get away from this horrible place and figure out what happened. A million questions buzzed through his mind to ask this New Friend when she found him. But first - "I-I'm okay! I'm over here!" He called, his voice high and whimpery by instinct. An infant calling out desperately for an adult to come and help. "I'm stuck!"

Castor had his fair share of shivers in his life. A thin coat on a wirey breed made winters difficult. This however, this was far out of proportion for the situation. The world was not cold, but yet it shook with such ferocious vigor that the room began to swim. The sound of metal scraping and screeching complimented the cacophony of screaming barks errupting around him. The lanky male was kept in a small yard, set up of small repeated fences where other larger dogs were put at will by the humans. He had only a small, raised bed that was far too low to the ground to provide any shelter from the falling debris. Chocolate eyes scanned the roof, listening to the creaks and cracks before gravity took it's toll. Sheet metal folden pitifully against the will of the Earth, crashing down over the diamond-linked fences caging him. Castor ducked instinctively, eyes squeezed shut as he expected the heavy impact to land squarely on his back. It was only once his ears stopped ringing that he cracked an eye open to see the fences bent and broken, but doing their job well enough to leave him breathing. He didn't have room to stand up fully, but there was a small tunnel through the warped metal that seemed just wide enough for him to squeeze through. Pushing himself with his back paws and pulling himself with his front, Castor slowly inched his way through until at last he could stand once more. The roof had snapped, the floor now becoming the slightly rusted roof that once protected them from the elements. Sucking in a deep breath, Castor swung his snout around, looking for anyone else close by who was stuck. It seemed that this area was fortunate enough to have the support of the fences. Those deeper within the shelter would not have had that luxury. Pushing himself from standing into a hurried lope, the Ibizan navigated across the maze of metal and debris. The door inside was wedged open by a chunk of waht used to be the wall. Preparing himself for what he might see next, and knowing that he was putting himself in more danger, Castor pushed inside. The dust from the crumbling walls was much harder to breathe in than the metal-tinged air laced with gusts of fresh wind he was fortunate to have outside. It was harder to see as well, the lights seemingly damaged by the tremors as well. "Are you okay?" A voice rang out, catching Castor's ears. A sigh of relief was cut off by a cough as the male moved closer to the sound. A smaller voice responded as he made his way towards the female, it's squeak begging for help tugging on Castor's heart-strings. His heart wanted to go to the pup, to reassure them that they would find a way to get him out. His brain knew that he was only one dog, and not one for strength at that. Two brains and two sets of paws would be better in the long run. Hopefully the young one wasn't wounded. Brown eyes landed on the pale form, and he could only assume that she was the one barking to the pup. He rushed over, paws throwing newly-settled dust back into the air as he drew to a stop. "I'm going to get you out," he spoke, his voice steady despite their situation. It was clear that the main problem was the large stone slab crushing the cage from above. It was big, too big for him to move alone. The leggy dog walked in a semi-circle around the cage, trying to gather as much information as he could about the chunk. There was room to the right where it could fall safely without hitting any other cages, at least he hoped. Positioning himself on the left side of the cage, Castor spoke once more, "Do you think you can push up from inside while I push from here? I think we can slide it off of you." He didn't make any move to touch the slab yet, in cautious fear that if he did, it could send it even further down. @jemma Kahru'hu

Jemma felt her heart break at the blatant plea in the pup's whine. She wished more than anything that she could get to him. Shove the stone off of her cage or nudge the cage forward or something. She was useless so far away! "It's gonna be okay, pup." she said, lying through her teeth. Even if it gave the pup only a few minutes of relief, that would be enough. "Help will come. The humans wouldn't leave us here."
And help DID come, but not from the humans. An older looking dog came from somewhere, Jemma hadn't paid any attention from where, and circled her cage. "Get the pup first!" she yipped instead of answering. "If we shift the rubble too much without knowing where he is, he could get crushed." She gave a doggy grin, panting with her tongue lolling out of her mouth. It dried her tongue, but anything to sound more confident than she really was. "I can wait a bit longer."
She turned her head toward where she thought the pup's voice had sounded from. "Keep talking, pup! We'll try to find you!" Or well. Their rescuer would try to find him. Hopefully the stranger didn't argue.

Kahru'hu stopped whimpering when the dog outside started to talk again. He tilted his head, ears flopping slightly, and frowned hard as if it would help him hear her better. She was telling him that it was going to be okay, but she wasn't getting any closer. And then his heart shattered again when he realized that she too was stuck somewhere in the pitch darkness. He found his bottom lip quivering again but this time he sucked it in and bit it hard. He wasn't going to cry again! He wasn't alone. He at least had this dog to talk to, even if he couldn't see her or even his paws in front of his face.
"Oh-okay." He yipped back. "I-" But before he could say anything else, another voice broke in. This one was deeper, male probably, promising to get someone out. Kahru's tail began to slowly sweep again. He remained quiet, head tilted upwards towards the voices murmuring back and forth, listening to them cook up some kind of...something. He heard bits and pieces only. Shift the rubble and get the pup.
"I'm over here!" He yipped again. "Under uh...under some stuff!" And then he heard a third voice entering the mix, desperate and female, calling out to someone that wasn't him and probably wasn't either of the two dogs he'd "met" before.
(Going to just superimpose some Tavi down below don't mind me)
"Kira! Kira, where are you?" The desperate mother howled, pacing back and forth, too and fro through the wreckage of the shelter. She felt like in the last half an hour she had shoved her head into every crack and crevice on this blasted pile of junk. But her baby was nowhere to be found. She had left the other two safely tucked under a bush well outside of the disaster zone. Guilt overwhelmed Tavi and she blinked away hot tears and gritted her teeth. That would NOT help anything. Kira was in there somewhere. She continued to call, yip, croon and howl, hoping that her daughter would somehow hear her. She was just a baby, not even a moon-cycle old. Her tiny ears had only just begun to unfold.
At some point Tavi tripped over something soft and floppy and whipped around, panicked, to find that it was the back end of a full grown black dog half buried under a slab of concrete. She took a moment to nudge the body and realized with a jolt that it was no longer alive. This added fuel to her desperation and she whipped around, clambering over the concrete slab with her nose down, until she finally spotted two more living dogs. One was in a cage and one was free - Both seemingly unharmed and talking about freeing a pup.
"Hey!" She barked a little too roughly, racing over to join them. "Please, help me. I can't find my pup. Have you seen my pup?"

Tavi’elu had managed to free two of her babes, her little Lendri and Haka’far, the two boys blessedly safe hidden amongst the shrubbery a decent distance from the disaster zone. Her work was not through, though. The mother couldn’t even think of retreating until Kira had been returned to her as well.
”Kira! Kira, where are you?” She howled, slipping through the wreckage and debris with all the grace her limber form lent her; a pale eel amongst the sea of destruction. If only she’d had the ability to carry all three of her pups at once. Was Kira alone and scared, shivering in the dark? Worse, was she hurt? Worse, was she–
She stumbled briefly, her paw hitting what could only be the body of another dog. Tavi snarled, startled, stepping back a pace only to realize that the black canine had met his own bitter end. Jaw clenching tight, she turned away sharply, unwilling or unable to picture her daughter in a similar state. Lowering her pink nose to the ground, she sniffed at the debris until the scent of three others drifted to her on the stale, dusty air.
She felt a brief stab of hope as milk-scent pierced her nose, one that was swiftly snuffed out as she realized that the ren it belonged to was not hers. The other two canines were adults, one of which was entrapped in a cage as well, whilst the other–
She cocked her head to the side, hazel eyes incredulous and confused. ”Castor?” She asked, mind racing back to a time when she was as little as her own patas were now, back when Jinx was the only name she had. But now wasn’t the time for reunions, and so she raced forward, voice emerging sharp and urgent. ”Hey! Please, help me. I can’t find my pup. Her name is Kira.” She gazed up at the male (her brother?) with imploring eyes, before turning sharply to approach the unfamiliar adult female.
”The humans? Humans are why you’re stuck in that cage, missy.” The ibizan snapped out, though her heart wasn’t in it as she eyed the door with a critical eye. ”I’ll break ya loose, yeah, but you’ve got to help me find my Kira in exchange. Capiche?” Without waiting for an answer, she gripped the sliding contraption keeping the cage door shut in her teeth, giving it a sharp yank to try and open it to free Jemma. This had to be quick, so she could get back to looking for her daughter. @jemma Kahru'hu Castor | Thi'e Grair Ren

Dead. I am dead. The words rang out like a church bell alerting a town of a newly wedded couple. The sentiment repeated itself in the medium-sized canine's mind. Dead. I am dead. What was the last thing he remembered? He could barely put the fragments into place within his mind. Where was he? What had happened? The scent of concrete and urine hinted at the edge of his nostrils, giving him only the slightest of clues. The dog stables. That's where he was. The idea started to tug at the corners of his brain, leaving a pinching feeling in his skull. Yes. The place humans used to keep dogs, much like how the stables he had seen out on the edges of the human world had been used to keep horses, goats, and pigs. Cages. Prisons. Hara'Mukha would have sneered at the thought, had he been able to control his facial muscles. Those damn, dirty humans had captured him and held him prisoner. Dead. I am dead. What then? What had happened next? The world began to shake. That's what had happened. Rozo'Garuru, but from the earth. Everything had seemed wrong. Other canna had been crying out, the scent of fear flooded Hara's memories. But, clever ol' Hara as sly as he was, had managed to free himself from his prison. No guards had been posted to stop him. He had performed this act, or those similar, many times before. Even in a panic he found the human traps simple to unravel. But it hadn't been enough. He couldn't even manage to save himself from the sky crashing down and the ground splitting into large crevices, let alone bring others with him. He was sure there were plenty with him now, now that he was dead. And the mantra repeated itself in his mind. Dead. I am dead.
Natural reflexes shifted the pointed ears atop the elkhound's head. Voices. Scared and distant, but not otherworldly. The sounds of other canna conversing, panicking, longing to be free from the darkness that enveloped them - as it did him - drilled themselves into Hara's throbbing head. There were others. They were trapped. He squeezed his eyes shut tightly before opening one a mere crack, a futile attempt to view the world around him and his current situation. Darkness. Nothing but kah rumblier. And for his efforts, the male received a sprinkling of dust and gravel in his eye. He squeezed both tightly shut again. A low grumble escaped his throat. With such broken concrete above his head, perhaps he could manage to get himself out. He attempted to stand. The clods and dust above him shifted, tightening what little space he had in his innocuous burrow. A sharp pain shot up his right side. He collapsed with minimal fanfare. Still trapped in his untimely grave, the wild canna suddenly found himself gasping for breath. There was no doubt now. He was hurt. But he would live... probably... All the while he continued to listen to the other dogs carry on. Something about a lost or buried ren. Or, perhaps grair ren. He couldn't quite tell at this point. His heart bled for the pups. If they were lost in this mess they were surely lost to the world. Listening to the fellow survivors in search of lost pups, Hara found himself whispering a small prayer. "Rumm pell fli u canna." "Get the pup first!" the shrill voice of the dog in the crushed cage rang out, "If we shift the rubble too much without knowing where he is, he could get crushed." Castor cocked an eyebrow at her refusal to be saved, but made no move to argue. If she wanted the pup saved before her, he would try to. He didn't know this dog, and if her agenda was to be crushed by a large rock trapped within escapable walls, he would not stop her. He suppressed a roll of his eyes as he turned away from the first of the trapped dogs he had found. His nose was not the best, and his wide peripheral vision did little to help in the darkened, dusty interior of the collapsed prison. With nothing left to turn to, Castor focused on his ears, trying to triangulate the whereabouts of the tiny voice. Instead, what he caught was a slap in the face when the sound of his name barked by the voice of a ghost. Chocolate eyes scanned through the rubble to see the haze breaking around a familiar lanky frame. "Jinx?" he questioned, his voice almost hesitant to confirm her identity. ”Hey! Please, help me. I can’t find my pup. Her name is Kira,” his... possible sister yapped again. Another pup? He had always assumed that there were more pups trapped within the rubble, but he had never assumed that any could share his blood. The feisty flare of his sister's hatred for the humans was clear as she cut into the poor dog. Castor could empathize with her anger. After all, it seemed they both had been ceremoniously dumped here. As she darted toward the cage, Castor paused. His instinct wanted him to go back, to help his sister get this poor dog out of the cage. On the other hand, she had so clearly brushed him off, wanting to save the pup over herself. If this strange Ibizan rising from the dead truly was his sister, she was more than capable of executing her own plans. The hound moved away from the pair of she-dogs, in the direction of the pup that had first called out. The muffled prayer of a tongue he was barely familiar with caught his ear as he shifted through the rubble. His paw almost stepped on top of the pile before his ear caught it. Stifling a groan of annoyance at needing to help yet another dog trapped under rubble that could weigh more than himself. Heaving, Castor shovelled loose dirt and gravel between his hind legs, large scoops flung beneath his ribs with dutiful consistency. He panted, the heat and strain of the work burning his underused muscles. The Ibizan was one for sprinting, not digging. He moved a considerable amount, uncovering grey fur difficult to see when so caked in debris. For the few larger chunks, Castor planted his hind paws against rubble that seemed stable enough, heaving backwards with his front paws around the front of the piece to try and shift it. He knew moving it fully would be impossible with just himself. Panting heavily after attempting to shift rubble for many minutes, Castor barked out, "There are more here free. This is the best I can do for now. Keep trying to get out."Turning to the direction that the pup's yaps were coming from, the lanky male found a caved in section of the kennel. He could hear the whimpering cries of the pup coming from within, but the sheer amount of rubble surrounding him was catastrophic. He truly hoped his sister had not caused a cave in over the small kennel-bound dog. There wasn't much more he could do on his own. One Ibizan hound against potentially hundreds of pounds of concrete and steel was a battle he would never win. "My name is Castor, what is yours, little one? We're here. We're going to get you out," his usually blunt voice melted into soft, reassuring tones for the pup he could not yet see. "We are going to get you out," he repeated softer, more of a wish than a promise, but he hoped the young pup couldn't tell the difference. Kahru'hu @tavi @jemma Hara'mukha

Completely oblivious to the drama, injury, tears, and loss of life that was taking place in the wreckage of the shelter, Uru burst forth and began clambering over debris with a wagging stump-tail the moment that she saw other dogs congregating together at the scene of their near-demise. Her jaws opened wide in a huge grin as she pushed past the other members of her party to go and greet the "new" faces. In her heart and mind, she was simply elated to see that they had survived. If she had thought about the situation for even another minute she would have perhaps realized that these were only a few of the dogs that had been left at the shelter. She also probably wouldn't have been stomping so hard with her dirty white paws through the rubble if she'd realized that there might be dogs buried underneath.
"Hey guys!" She barked, announcing herself rather loudly. She plowed right past Castor, who was poking around in the dirt nearby. Her voice echoed unpleasantly through what remained of the building. "We came to rescue you, but it looks like you guys are doing just fine! What even was that? Was that really Rozo'ama Akoda? I've only ever heard about those in stories! Oh gosh, you're stuck." She stopped suddenly, realizing that one of this little group was still trapped inside of a cage. The big white pup turned with an almost comical look of concern to peer at Jemma through the bars of her wrecked cage. For a split moment her mouth hung open as if she were about to continue casually chattering about the mixed breed's predicament. Instead, she piped up with a single sentence that was probably even more frightening.
"I bet I can help you out!" A bold declaration from a dog who had recently had a massive growth spurt and had not yet learned to regulate her own strength. And then she stopped again and asked a more practical question, though it was followed by a slightly suspicious glance at Tavi and Castor, who really seemed to have other things on their mind. "Have any canna tried to get you out?"
And then finally, Uru noticed that Castor was rooting through the debris to find a buried dog and the teen-ditziness was pushed to the side long enough for Uru to realize that these dogs were actually really busy. There really were canna trapped under the wreck. With a dramatic gasp she completely forgot about poor Jemma and raced to Castor's side (just as he left) to peer down at the mess of grey fur that lay half buried.
"Is he dead?" She cried out, then addressed the "dead" body as if it were deaf. "Don't worry, my search team is on its way! We. Will. Get. You. Out!"

Good, he was turning away! He didn't argue about going after the pup first! Jemma was very careful about making sure her sigh of relief was silent. She settled back, content to wait her turn... even if the groaning of the rubble around her made her wonder if it would be her turn to die or not.
A second dog appeared though, one who seemingly knew the other dog, if that gasped word was a name. Jemma was ready to witness a reunion, but such a thing wasn't meant to be. The female canna turned sharply toward her, apparently having heard her say the humans would come, and Jemma bristled slightly even as the stranger got to work on her cage. "That isn't true!" she blurted out impulsively. Then she thought about it, and much more sheepishly went, "Well, I mean, yes, it is. But it wasn't MY humans who threw us in here! It was the Snags! They were the ones who-"
A young voice barking interrupted her, and Jemma jerked around to blink at the pup that that ran up and started yapping away and had the audacity to ask if anybody had even tried to get her out. Jemma shot a very confused look at the dog that currently had her teeth at the door, trying to open it. Before she could even answer, the pup was off again. "Well. That just happened." she muttered, visibly confused.

It was a blessed relief for the bedraggled puppy to hear so many voices chiming in from the surface, even though he couldn't make out what most of them were saying. He was just happy that he wasn't alone anymore. He wiped his sticky eyes and nose once again and stretched his muzzle up to poke at the wall of debris overhead. A cloud of dust immediately dropped into his eyes and nose and made him recoil with a barrage of coughs. It was quite a while before Kahru was able to catch his breath and realize that one of those muffled voices was actually speaking directly to him. His tail gave a small, tentative sway and he found himself gazing up again at the dark ceiling, albeit more carefully this time. He focused all of his attention on that voice, which had seemingly gotten a bit louder. The dog's name was Castor and he wanted to know what the buried pup was called. He sniffled yet again before answering with the same oversharing speech that most pata would use when introducing themselves cheerfully to a a grown-up. It was somehow comforting to share this information. It was the only thing that made sense right now. It was something that the small ren knew was true. "My name is Kahru'hu. I-I am almost two moon-cycles old. My mama's name is Aba'flik." He paused, unsure if the dog outside was still listening. And then his voice broke again when he next spoke, even though Castor had then promised that he would help him get out of this trap. All of his short life had been comprised of instant rescues...his mother scooping him up the moment he cried out for her. The dog who was promising to help him was obviously not a mother or else he would be pulled from this black nightmare already. It was a pretty dark thought for a dog only nine-weeks-old. "I want my mama."

"Uru, slow down!" Great Rot'zo, he'd known the pup for all of ten minutes and she was already exasperating. Rah'ki led the rescue party through the rubble at the forefront, not through any decision or order to lead but sheer anxiety. Cannae' u was somewhere in there, possibly hurt, and Rah'ki was determined to find him.
He looked over his shoulder to the other canna behind him, and the anxiety to find his friend mixed with the anxiety of giving orders. He didn't want to be in charge, or annoy anybody by acting like he WAS in charge, but the faster they went through the rubble the faster Cannae' u was by his side. "Split up! Search for survivors, help whoever you find!" Please that be the right call...
With swift paws, he sped to Uru's side. Rot'zo knows she needed SOME kind of supervision. He glanced down at the the mass of gray fur and chewed on his lip. If this dog WAS dead he didn't want Uru to see, but on the possibility of them being alive... He glanced up at the pup (and didn't it annoy the ever loving crap out of him he had to look up at a PUP) he barked, "Help me get the rubble off."
Using his smaller size to his advantage, Rah'ki squirmed his way under one of the bigger stones and slowly stood, heaving and uncaring of the dust that marred his brown pelt. "Grab it with your paws and heave!" he called up.

"Help me get the rubble off."
As the self-proclaimed leader of their rescue party arrived at Uru's side, his words brought her back to her senses. Or at least shut her up long enough that it actually appeared that she might listen for once. As he squirmed underneath the rubble to push the great stone blocks off of the filthy body buried underneath, Uru bounded around to grab it with her paws from the other side.
"So...he's not dead?" She grunted through gritted teeth. The big white doberman pup had a lot more to say, but the effort to pull away the rocks took the words out of her mouth. She braced her haunches in the grit and pulled hard on the chunk of stone. It wasn't long before her legs slid out from under her in the crumbled gravel and she fell backwards with a deep grunt. Thank the gods though, the rock had rolled away with her as she'd tumbled, crunching ominously through the debris for a moment before falling still a safe distance away. She leaped to her paws and gave a small victory howl, then whipped around and bared her teeth at the offensive, and very very heavy, stone.
"Yeah! Take that, you rock!" She snapped, dancing around it to see where Rah'ki next might need her. Down into the pit she bounded to stand beside her new teammate, small tail wagging excitedly. And then her gaze fell upon the bedraggled dog that they were trying to unbury. Tall, cropped ears flew to attention. "Hey, look, he's breathing!" She barked excitedly, and then with a gesture that seemed very out of character for the hyperactive puppy, she stretched out one filthy white paw and gently scooped the dirt away from the injured dog's face so that he might breathe better.
"What should we do next, Rah'ki?" She said, tilting her head towards her companion with a deep, eyebrow furrowing frown. Uru might have been an overconfident, oversized ren, but a ren still she was. And right now she needed an adult to tell her what to do to make all of this better, because it had suddenly begun to creep into her mind how serious this situation might really be.

Tavi’elu, frazzled as she was by the disappearance of her pup, didn’t have the emotional wherewithal to feel anything but a vague sense of bittersweetness as her brother turned away. Their reunion could come after they’d extracted themselves and the other living dogs from this catastrophe of a building. With that in mind, she renewed her tugging at the latch of Jemma’s cage, huffing out a frustrated breath when her teeth slipped from their grip. Fixing the trapped she-dog with a wry look, she said, ”Whether they snag your neck or they snag your heart, they take your freedom either way, canna’thi.”
Before she could have another go at the cage, a ghostly pale dog burst into their midst with cheer and bluster that was entirely inappropriate for the situation. Jinx’s ears flicked back to pin against her head as she witnessed the way the pup stomped atop the rubble, mind flashing back to the deceased dog that had been buried a short ways away— and the idea of her own Kira, alive beneath the rubble, stomped on by some careless ren.
It didn’t matter that the large white puppy was already racing away; Tavi’elu pulled her lips back in an irritated snarl and made good use of her canna-name as she barked after her: ”Watch where you’re stomping, ren, before I nip your ears like the pup you are!” Her voice was a booming snap that would undoubtedly be heard despite young Uru’s distance. Then, with annoyance still present in the lines of her body, she grabbed the latch of the cage once more and jerked her head to the side with a sharp tug– finally, blessedly, opening Jemma’s cage.
”Come on, now, out you get. My daughter isn’t going to find herself.” She said, nosing briefly at the other female’s shoulder to check for wounds before pulling away with a sniff, satisfied that she at least wasn’t bleeding. ”I last saw her this way– over here.” She darted forward, trusting the other dog to follow her as she trekked carefully through the debris. Her own senses were muddled after over an hour of searching, nose and ears clogged with dust and numb to the scents that had swiftly become familiar. If the two dogs listened very, very carefully though, they’d hear the tiny whimpers of a lone she-pup beneath a small block of concrete nearby.
