Snoring and sleep-filled snorts filled the halls, bouncing from the corners of the room to create an almost booming sound as the pile of Why'o members peacefully slept together in their typical piles. Friends atop friends, those who had formed beef snuggling up with those who antagonized them - it was honestly a very peaceful existence. There was one member, whoever, whom sleep seemed to evade.
Haka'far lay upon the floor surrounded by his loved ones. His mind was racing as the day that his best friend, Jarri'hin, was destined to leave the Why'o clan seemed to be fast approaching. His ears lay flat upon his head as he tried to drown out the constant noise. It wasn't the snoring that was getting to him, but a nagging voice in his own mind that he couldn't quite get to shut up and leave him alone to sleep.
A familiar voice caught his attention as the whisper sounded from only a few paces away. Instinctively, the pup's head shot up, ears alert and turned towards the recognizable voice of his chief, Li'Navira. With a quick frown and a look of panic in his eye he immediately dropped his head back down onto his paws, closed his eyes, and feigned sleep. One ear remained up and listening until two sets of paws set off outside of the prison. Where was she going at this hour? And who had she taken with her? If he had had the time to take a head count the cadet would have been able to determine exactly who was missing from the room and piles - as was the nature of the closeness within the Why'o clan. But who it was was only of minor importance. Obviously she was doing some sort of conspiring. Wait... what day was it? Lifting his head once again - after being sure the two wakened adults were gone - he searched out the agouti coated husky, Kukuk. Was he still here? What if Navira and Kukuk had gone off to meet with the Rith'r Flik? What if they planned to come back and take Jarri'hin tonight? How could she?! Without even letting him say goodbye to his very best friend!
His heart was pounding in his chest with an impending panic. Looking down at the small, sleeping form of his friend eased his fear only slightly. What was he supposed to do when she was gone? But Li'Navira had said... Ugh. She was chief. The chief makes all the decisions. The chief knows best. Chief Navira, chief Navira, chief, chief, chief! If only she wasn't chief. But then, who? The ibizan pondered the question for a short time. Looking between his three closest companions - Jarri'hin, Lendri, and Kira - as he considered. Who?
Then, the answer struck him like a lightning bolt. Who better than Haka'far? He already basically was their leader. The leader of their small gang. He could be a clan leader! But... no. They wouldn't go for that. Especially not Kira. Well... maybe... No. He wouldn't leave his sister behind while seceding from the Why'o clan. That would be too far. Even for him. But, how could he convince them to come along? Obviously Jarri'hin would come with him for surely she did not want to leave her friends. Lendri was easy enough - all he needed was a bit of bullying. But Kira would push back. And Kira had the potential to turn Lendri against him. Hmm. What to do?
Hadn't the three siblings run away before? Yes! Before becoming cadets they had joined together and snuck out from the prison walls. Though, as bumbling ren Haka was nearly certain now that the adults had let them past. Lendri had fumbled about so much that surely a nightly patrol had caught them and let them through. He, of course, had been flawless in his execution. That was it! It was all coming together.
With a soft nudge he pushed at his sleepy friend, urging her to wake up and whispering in her ear. "Jarri... Jarri'hin... have you heard of Eti'uru?" As he spoke he continued nudging her. The question was a bit of a silly one. Of course she had to have heard of it as Haka'far was very boastful about his own accomplishment during the little mission. "Li'hali, I think we should do it since you missed out," he continued. "I'll wake the others so you don't have to go it alone."
A friendly smile was given in his betrayal-filled sincerity. With a shake of his rump he bumped Kira in his attempt to wake her and, craning his neck, he nipped at Lendri's ear before letting out a "Shhhhhhhhh!"
"Nu kef, u'ren!" he announced in a hushed whisper. "Jarri'hin has never done Eti'uru. Whaddya say we help her out?" His tail wagged as he glanced between each of his sleepy companions. His ears were up and his expression was that of a joy he had not felt in weeks.

Even though spring was warming up, Jarri'hin still found herself tucked into the middle of a pile of Ibizan hound puppies. She was sound asleep when the nudge of a cool nose into her side made her scrunch her face and stretched out her short legs. Despite the size of her ears relative to her head, it still took a second for her to really comprehend what Haka'far was whispering about. Cracking open one brown eye, Jarri squinted towards her best friend as she nodded along, slowly catching up with what he was saying.
Once it finally hit her groggy brain that Haka was proposing that they all sneak out of camp on a venture of Why'o rebellious youthful hijinks, she was much more alert. Haka made eti'uru sound like so much fun! With all the confusion about why she had to go and see the Rith'r Flik general, and hearing some whispers about her 'going home,' whatever that meant, she really really needed this opportunity to solidify her place as a true Why'o like her friends. Then she could show Kukuk and Li'Navira that she deserved to be a Why'o even though she was found instead of born in the prison.
As Haka woke up his siblings, Jarri helped by nudging Kira and Lendri even more. "It'll be fun! C'mon guys pleeease?" she whispered, both eyes wide open now, tail wagging lightly behind her as her gaze looked in between the trio of siblings. She was trying very hard not to squeal with excitement. There were far too many adults nearby for her to risk ruining her eti'uru! Practically vibrating with glee, her little head whipped between the siblings, hoping they would wake up as quickly as she did so they could complete her journey to be a true Why'o.

Lendri was completely oblivious. Not only to his brother's plans, but also to the fact that Jarri and Haka were chattering excitedly over his head. He was dead to the world, flopped over on his back with his long legs propped up on Kira's sleeping form. He was warm, he was comfortable. And he was very much not ready to wake up.
Haka, apparently, had other plans. Lendri startled awake and blinked his eyes blearily, then let them droop shut again, thinking that someone must have accidentally stepped on him in passing. It wasn't uncommon to get nudged or poked when sleeping in a pile. It just happened. But...then there was another nudge from his other side. And voices.
Lendri's eyes cracked open again and he peered up at his brother from an upside down position, frowning hugely. No. Nope. This had to be a dream. They'd already done Eti'Uru. There was no way.
But...Jarri. Jarri hadn't had Eti'Uru. Of course Haka would use her as an excuse to go again. He'd had a blast the first time around. Lendri mostly remembered that his legs felt like jelly the whole entire time. He'd been sure that the grown-ups were going to wake up and turn him into an askabi or something.
The black and white pup found himself groaning tiredly under his breath. He slapped both paws over his muzzle and murmured underneath them,
"Eti'uru happens before you get a mentor. She's got Kukuk."

The pup was completely oblivious to the world around her. Loud snores emanated from her as she slept. Her legs and nose spasming as she slept. Completely absorbed in her dream of rabbit chasing. Her long legs carried Kira over the grassy hills. Tongue lolling out of her mouth as she sprinted this way and that. Attempting to catch the fleeing creature with no success.
Though just as she nearly caught up with it. The pup's eyes jolted open as she woke up with a start, awakened by Haka’far bumping against her back. A snort leaving her jowls as she lifted her head slightly. Alarmed but not enough to fully get up. Craning her neck to look behind her at Haka’far. Bleary eyes gazed uncomprehendingly at the fellow ibizen. Rest still at the top of her mind she laid her head back against the prison floors. Going to close her eyes again but stopping suddenly, ears springing up when Haka’far spoke. Jarri’s Eti’uru? Such a thing had completely slipped her mind. But then again Jarri had always been more Haka’s friend then hers.
Thinking back on her own Eti’uru. The most she remembered was Lendri and Haka’far being themselves. And Kira being too caught up in the thrill of rule breaking that she hadn’t much cared about anything else. And she figured it would be about the same this time. With the exception of the added pup.
"Eti'uru happens before you get a mentor. She's got Kukuk."
Glancing over to Lendri, she gave a lazy nod of her head. Still refusing to move from her spot on the floor.
"Mhm..too old.." she murmured

follow me, set me free trust me and we will escape from the city A wide smile spread across Haka'far's white face at the excitement Jarri'hin had shown towards his proposal. His mouth hung open and his eyes squinted in his grinning expression, tongue lolling and tail wagging softly behind him. He was so very clever!
Kira and Lendri's responses, however, were less than desirable. His grin dropped into a deep frown, his ears folding back upon his head and a look of annoyance shown in his eyes. Why were they being so difficult? It was a good idea. The way Jarri had instantly awoken and was rearing to go and his own inability to find sleep had skewed his perception on waking sleepy dogs. With a determination made apparent in his expression, he rose to his feet on stiff legs to stand over his mostly-asleep siblings.
His first target - Kira. If he could get her up and onboard then Lendri would surely follow the two elder siblings. Leaning down to her face, he began to nudge her with his nose before taking a half step back and poking her in the face with his front paw. "No, no, no. She never got the chance," he said, referencing his friend's lack of Eti'uru. "She was only here for, like, a day until she got a mentor. Probably didn't even know about Eti'uru, right Jarri?" He turned his head to look at his Li'hali for backup and assurance, still continuing to poke his sister in the face.
Rolling his eyes at his siblings' slow responses, he turned towards Lendri. Maybe if he could get Lendri up and moving then Kira would follow out of jealousy like she did last time? She definitely did not seem to care for missing out on their little misadventures. Jumping up, he placed his front two paws on his younger brother's exposed chest and began bounding up and down on him, repeating a mantra of the black-spotted pup's name. "Lendri, Lendri, Lendri, Lendri, Lendrilendrilendrilendri..." Haka'far would not dare to do this sort of maneuver towards his sister, knowing she would be stubborn enough to nip him and then turn around and decide his antics have earned him a permanent, unwavering "no."
His voice was still a hushed whisper, but it was becoming difficult to keep his volume down as the urgency to get out - before Li'Navira returned from where ever it was she had had gone - was building. i act | "i speak" | 'i think' |

Jarri's excited dancing paws slowed as not only Lendri but Kira too both decided that she didn't get a chance to partake in the Why'o tradition. It wasn't her fault that she got a mentor on her first day! She was a Why'o and she deserved to experience Eti'uru!! Tears pricked at the edge of her vision as the dogs she considered friends shot down the fun idea so quickly. Did they not think she deserved it? Did they secretly think less of her because she wasn't born into the clan?
Thankfully, Hlei'hali jumped in to defend her, "No, no, no. She never got the chance. She was only here for, like, a day until she got a mentor. Probably didn't even know about Eti'uru, right Jarri?" She shook her head vigorously, folded ears slapping the side of her face, "I didn't know about it at all! I want to try it, pleeeeease?" She pleaded, bottom lip starting to jut out as the filtered moonlight through the prison windows caught the edge of tears clinging to her eyes. Truly, the name Jarri'hin was well-earned by the little ren. "Pleeeeeeeeeease Kiraaaaa pleaseeeeeeee," she whispered to the most rambunctious of the trio of siblings, lightly poking her with a paw as far back as she could to avoid getting bitten for waking her up. Surely once they were more awake they'd see that this was just an opportunity for double the fun for them!

Lendri would have slipped back into a peaceful sleep without another thought for his overeager brother and...well. His overeager brother's friend. Or even satisfaction that Kira was agreeing with him for once. Haka'far was determined, however, to make sure that didn't happen. Before Lendri had a chance to drift away, a sudden, relentless pounding began against his chest. The white pups eyes popped open and he let out a startled gasp before realizing that the pounding was accompanied by the voice of his eldest sibling.
Again, he found himself groaning, but this time his voice vibrated comically underneath Haka drumming away on his ribcage.
"Okay, okay!" Lendri whined a little too loudly, rolling over to escape the onslaught. The cadet ducked his head again and rubbed his bleary eyes hard, muttering grumpily, "We're gonna get in trouble." Even as he spoke though, he wiggled away from Kira and stretched, eyes still squinted half shut with sleep. But he didn't stop mumbling under his breath. "Likal will have me cleaning up after Ira's pups til they're cadets if we get caught. And Navira will give Kira away to Nahara. And Rah'ki will banish Haka to the swamp. And Kukuk will...he'll make Jarri pick all the kitch out of his fur. And then all the rumblier'e hali's fur too."

Her ears folded back slightly at Haka'fars insistence. Letting out a exasperated snort as he tried to convince her. Even if his points were compelling. She wasn't getting up from her spot unless she was forced to. The pup felt extra stubborn today. .
That was until she opened her eyes slightly to glare at Haka'far for his excessive poking and glanced over at Jarri, seeing the tears prickling in her eyes had the pup panicking slightly. And the outright begging was quickly tenderizing her heart into a fine mush. They really did have a point.. maybe she can do it just this once. Whats the harm in doing it again?
"Alright! Alright! Fine. We can do it." With a yawn she rolled over and stretched out her long legs. A low yawn escaping her muzzle as she pulled herself into a sitting position. Trying to clear the sleep from her mind and eyes. Glancing over at the equally sluggish Lendri. Ears perking at his anxious monologue.
"Don't the adults only pretend to be mad about it? Its a tradition!"
The confident statement didn't stop her from shivering slightly at Kira's supposed punishment. She certainly didn't like Nahara. Especially (and mostly) because of how she treated Li'Navira. Though maybe apprenticing under her would be better than having to watch a bunch of pups.

follow me, set me free trust me and we will escape from the city Jarri'hin's pleading pulled at the cadet's heart strings. Surely his siblings would change their minds now, right?
Stopping his assault on Lendri, Haka'far stepped back at his brother's acquiescence to his proposal. Success! And with Kira's approval as well! His tail wagged softly behind him as everything began to fall into place. With any luck he could have the small gang completely out of Why'o territory by morning and then... well, he'd figure something out. But for now, they just had to make their great escape without any of the adults catching onto them.
"Pfft," was his only reply to his brother's negative outlook on if they should be caught. He wanted to add how that if they got caught they may never see Jarri'hin again, but he refrained himself. As far as his siblings and Jarri were concerned, that future was inevitable. But Haka knew better.
"Alright you guys, we will have to be very careful. Lendri, you have to do your best uru, okay?" He had singled out his brother due to the fact that during the pups' prior Eti'uru, the dark splotched sibling had been seemingly vibrating through the entire excursion which led him into fumbling about. While their prior attempt had afforded them that luxury, Haka'far was certain this time that they could be in real trouble if they were to get caught. Though he would not admit it, Lendri had made a solid point about punishments. "Now, let's go before anyone wakes up!"
With his final whispering command he started off. It took an active mind to force himself to remain low - as the eldest brother tended to carry himself in high regard. His head and body was low and his steps were slow and meticulous, though he found himself wanting to rush at the pace of his rapidly beating heart. It was adrenaline caused by a mixture of excitement for his assured future with his friend and the fear of what should happen should they be halted in their attempted succession.
His ears were pressed low atop his head but perked at the sudden, sharp voice that cut through the air like a knife through butter. His muscles tensed as he froze in place. They hadn't even managed to make it out of the mess hall before being caught. Haka'far's eyes were wide, staring straight ahead as his body was unmoving in the hopes that this antagonist might not see them if they all stood still. Alas, Why'o sight was not based on movement. i act | "i speak" | 'i think' |

Chill out, whatcha yelling for? if you could only let it be, you will see Merle ears perked up at the sound of tiny voices. Amongst the deep snoring it was not unheard of for yipping and whining to occur in the dreamscapes of her fellow Why'o canna. In fact, had Kitchi been able to hear herself sleep she may have noticed that she tended to whine in the depths of her own dreams. But tonight dreaming had seemed to elude her as the constant mumbling of voices kept catching her ears. It wasn't until the shadows of movement began to rummage around that she had perked up into a fully awake state. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to adjust them to the dim light of the prison during night time.
And then, that voice. She'd never not recognize that voice. It drove her mad - possibly in more ways than one. Lendri.
What was he mumbling about? Eti'uru? Why were they talking about Eti'uru? In the darkness of the room no one could see her bi-colored eyes roll at the thought. Of course, the three siblings had done their Eti'uru together, teaming up to sneak out. She had seen them leaving that night, but no one had cared when she had mentioned it then. But when they returned it was all "bravo" and "well done" for them. What about her Eti'uru, when she had gone it alone? No one had cared when she had returned unscathed. She had even wondered if anyone had noticed that she was missing at all. She scowled, her mind away in that memory.
Movement from across the room brought her back into reality. Rising to her paws, she padded towards the line of escaping cadets. Where were they going? Why mention Eti'uru? They were all too old for that aba'ren game. Keeping her body low, she stalked them a few paces before standing to her full height and letting out an impetuous yip.
"And just where do you think you're all going?" she asked, not caring one way or the other for the volume of her voice. Why would she care if she woke all the adults to find these four getting up to no good? If anything, it would be great to see them be scolded for once. Then maybe the Why'o canna would finally recognize her as a valuable asset to the clan and one worthy of their love and adoration. "Aren't you all a little old to be sneaking out like this? Or have you all reverted back to aba'ren?"
A sneer crossed her face as her tail wagged behind her. She had caught them up to something and now they'd have to face the consequences for sure!

Lendri's pessimistic worrying and whining were to be expected. The shyest of the siblings was the wallflower and the worrier of the group. Surely his trepidation would be of good use to someone in the future. For now, he was just a silly billy worrying about things that could never happen! They simply weren't going to get caught! With all of the siblings finally up at and em, raring to go for their second-ever epic adventure and her very first one to become a true Why'o, the aba'canna's excitement was palpable. The speed of her tail could dust every hall of the prison!
"And just where do you think you're all going? Aren't you all a little old to be sneaking out like this? Or have you all reverted back to aba'ren?" Kitchi-kitchi's voice rang out gratingly. She was far too loud for hijinxing!! Jarri skittered over to her, shushing her quietly as she drew near, "Kitchi, I am an aba'ren, silly! And I'm going to finally be a Why'o fully and truly! Didn't you have a fun Eti'uru? You could do it again! How many Why'os get that opportunity!?" the little pup urged, not outright inviting the merle owi apprentice. It would be completely crazy if Kitchi joined them, but then again, if she did, Jarri might finally be able to break through to her and make real friends!

His very best uru! Good Gods! Did Haka'far know who he was talking to here? Lendri was doing his very best, creeping along behind his older brother with as much uru as he could muster...yet somehow his limbs still felt like whipping willow branches flapping around loosely in the wind. He had no structure, no grace.
There were times when Haka would stop and Lendri would careen straight into the back of the red and white cadet or trip right over Jarri'hin because he was too focused on making his dumb floppy paws not hit the concrete floor so loudly. Plus it was really dark and Lendri had terrible night vision. And he couldn't even whisper a "sorry" because Haka had told him to Uru like he'd never Uru'd before.
It was awful! It had been bad enough the first time they'd done eti'uru, but now...well. At least Haka seemed to be serious about it. In fact, Lendri had never seen his brother so focused on anything in his whole life. Perhaps the owi cadet's predictions about their punishments had gotten into that thick head in a way after all.
And then...there it was. The big reveal. The thing that would get them all caught and made into tick-picking Why'o askabis. The loud, smug "gotcha" voice of Lendri's very own kitch...a canna who ironically bore the same name as the biting bug and somehow always wanted to bite him. Kitchi-Kitchi. When she revealed herself to the escaping crew, Lendri's willowy frame immediately drooped even further. Yep. This was the end.
Jarri tried (probably in vain) to pipe up and appeal to Kitchi's better nature, but Lendri didn't have much faith in the little dog's bargaining ability. Not with Kitchi, anyway. She was...different. It took a lot of brain power to figure out what was going on in between her ears...and he was using all of his own right now to try to figure out how to save his family from her grumpy wrath before she woke up the whole prison.
"You...you never got a chance to do eti'uru with your brothers and sisters." The black and white cadet spoke up suddenly, trying his hardest to put on a brave, understanding voice for his fellow owi. He stepped forward, wobbly legs causing him to sway slightly before he had a chance to catch himself and made a show of wagging his tail for her, showing that he meant no harm in his statement.
The young ibizan lowered his head, finding it hard to look into her blazing brown and blue eyes even as he extended an olive branch, a night of peace - Though he really really wanted her to have mercy on the other pups, his offer was truly genuine.
"But we...uhm. We could be the next best thing? Just for tonight, if you want to come with us?"
